Richard and Elizabeth PHIPPARD baptized 5 children in Dorchester:-
1770 Elizabeth
1771 Richard
1774 James
1777 Mary
1785 Martha
I've not been able to find the marriage of Richard and Elizabeth. Can anyone help, please?
There is an earlier baptism, (Peter, 1767) which may or may not be linked, in Langton Matravers, with the father's name Richard but the mother is Priscilla. I've not been able to find this marriage, nor a burial of Priscilla, nor any further offspring attributed to this couple. Is this the same Richard?

Have you tried searching under PHEPPARD ?

found this on Dorset OPC, Elizabeths baptism (shown in separate page) also shows her as the fourth child of Richard and Elizabeth.

Thank you.
Absolutely fascinating, and pushes the missing marriage back to ca 1763 but, infuriatingly, no actual record and no bride's surname.

I tried putting Richard Phippard in the search box on the home page and came up with this about his son. There are other Phippard records that show up.

Thanks, both.
It would appear that there are 2 distinct families (Langton Matravers and Dorchester) with only the latter being of interest to me.
-
Not necessarily two families.
Even with a possible two marriages by Richard one to Priscilla and the other to Elizabeth, the daughter
Elizabeth could still be the 4th child of Richard.

Richard Pheppard married Priscilla Gower 24 February 1764 at Langton Matravers
in the presence of Samuel Luckes? and William Smith

Hello
Richard also seems to appear on the Militia lists filling in for others
1761-64 Richard labourer of Dorchester fpr Richard Tiffin of Earlsbury g.
1765 Richard age 22 lab of Blandford 5ft 5in single for Stephen Pampton ? apothecary Pimporne Warnership.
1768 Richard 26 of Blandord married 1 child ,gardener 5ft 7in .For Henry Field Piddletown
Which suggest a marriage 1765-8 and possibly Rebecca was born before the marriage.
Rebecca says on the 1841 census born in Dorset.Shame she dies 10.3.1851.(husband William Clare).Jane is the same and again she dies before the 1851 -3.8.1847 Fordington .(husband George Winzor).
And frustratingly no sign of John.
The burial of the 2 girls at Fordington might suggest a connection with David Phippard and Mary Lush married there in 3.4.1727.It looks like son David bapt 31.7. 1733 moved to Dorchester.
David junior married Anne Humber at Dorchester 21,2.1757 .2 children Mary 20.6.1758 and Ann 4.2.1761.
David junior was a barber in Dorchester who was exempt from serving in the Militia 1762.He died 21.5.1771 at Dorchester All Saints.
David senior looks like he ran the pub in Fordington -the Sign of the Last.(Ale house licence 30.9.1766.)
