Hi Everyone
I am trying to find any new information on the above ancestor JANE SCOTT.
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=669473.0
The above link is to my enquiry back in 2013 into Borlace Pickering.
I would now like to try and find more information on JANE??
Marriage: 20 Sep 1840 St Mary the Virgin, Blackburn, Lancashire, England
Thomas Pickering - Full Age, Cabinet Maker, Bachelor, Blackburn
Jane Scott - (X), Full Age, Spinster, Blackburn
Groom's Father: Borlasse Pickering, Weaver
Bride's Father: William Scott, Weaver
Witness: Joseph Fairbrother; Thomas Livesey
Married by: Thos. Sharples.
Apparently she was born in France 1816-1818, she was living North Meols on the 1881 CENSUS
Could this be verified at all??
Her mother is possibly Mary BURGIS (varies spellings).
If she were indeed born in France (a British subject) could this mean her father was possibly in the Military or similar. Just guessing.
Any further details on Jane Scott-Pickering would be much appreciated. Kindest regards Dianna

Jane PICKERING does say born France (British Subject) on the 1861, 1871 and 1881 census, though Blackburn Lancashire on the 1851.
Will keep looking. :)

There was a William Scott from Blackburn in 9th Foot, 1807-1823
-
There was also a William SCOTT born c1789, weaver, in the 82nd Foot, but he was of Penrith, Cumberland.
-
I think the 9th Regiment of Foot was in Cambray (Cambrai, Hauts-de-France Region) in 1817.
Modified to add:
Corporal William SCOTT of the 9th Regiment of Blackburn was a stone mason. (1823 Regimental Register of Pensioners).

Hi maddys52 and Shaun J. Thanks for your reply. It will be interesting to see where this goes!!
I have never checked for William Scott in the Census records or his ancestry.
I have included the name Mary Burgis as this is just a Potential Ancestor suggested by ancestry
Would be great to see if Jane had any siblings. I have not seen her death record either.
Starting from scratch! Will pursue the French birth then seeing as she is listed on three census records as being born there. Many thanks Dianna

Hi again
So I guess the next logical step is to purchase the birth certificate for Jane SCOTT. Would be good to see. Many thanks for the help. Regards Dianna

I have just sent an email to the GRO UK as I cannot see how to order this certificate online.
I thought their records only commenced after civil registration. Anyway will see what they say. Kind regards Dianna
