Title: George Fleming
Post by: pat77 on Tuesday 29 July 25 09:00 BST (UK)
My 4 times gt grandfather was born circa 1779 Tyan/Tynan Armagh, That is from Census forms in Airdrie in Scotland where moved with his family. His wife was Margaret Henthorn born 1792 and died 13 jan 1857 in Airdrie in Lanarkshire. Her death certificate states father Thomas Henthorn mother unknown. George's father is listed as John Fleming Farmer deceased no mother mentioned. Henthorn is quite an unusual name. Is it local?

The surname Henthorn is of English (Lancashire) origin and is a habitational name derived from Henthorn in Whalley, Lancashire. It's believed to originate from the Old English words "henn" (hen) and "Thyrne" (thorn bush).

No BMDs in Scotland pre registration which began in 1855 but a few births after the first being 1878.

Just 14 people named Henthorn in Ireland in the 1901 census. Only 1 lived in Co Armagh:

There is also a Hanthorn family in Co. Armagh, likely variation.

That will be the family but Margaret was born in 1792 and died 1857. I noticed one of the children was called Thomas and Margaret's Dad was Thomas.
