Robert KIDD was baptised at Northallerton in 1828, parents Robert and Ann. Robert was a gardener. A sister Mary Ann was baptised at Northallerton in 1824.
Can't find Robert jnr in 1841 but in 1851 he was in Ripley, as a gardener. He married Dorothy WILLIS in Chelsea in September 1851 and came to NZ in 1856.
Various trees on you know where have Ann as Ann BAILEY or Ann HEWETSON. A Robert KIDD married an Ann HEWETSON at Scarborough in 1814, but he was a carpenter. Can't find a marriage to an Ann BAILEY anywhere.
In 1841 Robert snr was in Northallerton with Mary Ann. He was in Ripon in 1851 aged 55 birthplace Skipton, with his wife Ann. Believe he is the Robert who died in Ripon in 1860 aged 65. In 1861 the widow Ann is in Ripon with a grand-daughter Mary Ann ASHBY aged 17. Ann died in Ripon in 1868.
Mary Ann ASHBY's parents were Christopher ASHBY and Dolly/Dorothy KIDD. Dolly KIDD was baptised at Giggleswick in 1817, daughter of Robert and Ann KIDD, Robert being a gardener.
There was another Robert KIDD born in Gargrave in 1790, who was also a gardener. Believe his first wife was Alice PRESTON and second wife Margaret BUSHBY.
Don't need any assistance going forward, just to confirm the correct Robert and who Ann was to be able to go backwards further.
Hoping someone can assist.
Thanks

It would seem Dolly born 1817 Giggleswick is the daughter of Robert and Ann. Abode is Settle.
-------------------------
There is also an Alice baptised 26 April 1812 the image is on ancestry. It says Alice daughter of John Kidd of Giggleswick, son of John Kidd of Settle by Ann his wife daughter of Ann Pollard.
The transcriber has it that Ann is the mother of Alice, but it can also be read another way that Alice is the daughter of John Kidd.
John Kidd being the son of John Kidd of Settle by Ann his wife daughter of Ann Pollard.
So could they be related?

Dolly/Dorothy I think definitely is a sister. In 1861 Martha ASHBY her daughter is with Mary and George LAYFIELD in Northallerton, and is described as a niece. She is also with them in 1891.
In 1881 the PEACOCKs and the LAYFIELDs are basically next door in Northallerton. George PEACOCK married Jane KIDD, eldest daughter of Robert and Ann.
In 1841 the PEACOCKs are next door to Robert KIDD and his daughter Mary Ann in Northallerton.

Thanks CaroleW.
That is them. They are in North Street in Ripon, which is where Robert and Ann were in 1851 and Ann in 1861.
Robert died at North St in Ripon in 1860 aged 65. Ann also died at North Street in Ripon in 1868 aged 80, the informant being Dorothy ASHBY.

Think I might have solved it.
I think the Robert KIDD who died 1860 was the one baptised at Gargrave on 31 Aug 1794, youngest son of Marmaduke "Duke" KIDD and Dorothy GREENWOOD, of Flasby near Gargrave.
The thing that initially threw me was a burial on the same day for said Robert in the Gargrave records, but have since noticed that it had been crossed out.

Have obtained Robert KIDD's death certificate, the one born in 1828. He died in NZ in 1913. Gives birthplace as Northallerton, and parents as Robert KIDD and Jane HEWSON.
Mother's first name is incorrect in that it should be Ann. The people giving the info may not have known.
Not sure that the 1814 marriage at Scarborough is the right one.
There are two Ann HEWSONs that could fit, one baptised at Bedale in 1788, d/o Joshua and Ann. She had an older sister Elizabeth. The other is daughter of Christopher and Jane born Pickhill in 1789. She had an older sister named Eliza.
Ann KIDD gives Bedale as her birthplace in 1851 and Pickhill in 1861, which according to Google Maps, both places are only a few kilometres apart.
A number of trees on Ancestry have Ann d/o Christopher marrying William WEDGEWOOD in Bedale in 1813. In 1861 she is in Lancashire living with her brother in law Johnathan MERRYWEATHER, who had married Elizabeth HEWSON. In 1851 Elizabeth is Betty.
Have the two Anns and sisters Eliza/Elizabeth been confused with each other, or am I getting confused.
On some trees on Ancestry there is an unsourced citation for Ann HEWSON saying that she worked in the gardens at Bedale Hall from 1809. William WEDGEWOOD was a tailor, whereas Robert KIDD was a gardener.
Thanks

In 1841 Robert snr was in Northallerton with Mary Ann.
This Robert was a publican. Whether born in county not filled in. Do you know where his wife Ann was in 1841?

I believe that Robert Kidd married Ann Hewetson 1814 Scarborough - he states he is a carpenter. Eldest child appears to the Jane Kidd b.20/8/1815, bp.17/9/1815 Gargrave - Robert now a labourer.
Next is Dolly bp.22/12/1817 Giggleswick - Robert now a gardener. Abode Settle.
Followed by Mary Ann 1824 Northallerton - ditto
Robert 1828 Northallerton - ditto
By 1841 he and dau. Mary Ann in Northallerton in same household as his daughter Jane (who married George Peacock 16/9/1836 Northallerton), now a Publican. Wife Ann with son Robert in Ripon and she also a Publican.
I don't think you should discount the 1814 marriage when he claims to be a carpenter. It's clear from the period 1814 to 1841 he had at least 4 occupations and moved some 3/4 times. Think he moved around going where the work was. Daughter Dolly married Christopher Ashby 1842 Ripon.

As per my original post I did not need anything coming forward, have all that. Just trying to establish which Ann it is, the Bedale one or the Pickhill one.
In the 1814 marriage Ann made her mark, which is a pity. If she had signed it may be a bit more obvious if she was HEWITSON?HEWETSON or HEWSON.

A few comments
Marriage: Robert was born in Skipton, Ann in Bedale or Pickhill - why marry in Scarborough? A long way from the other places associated with the family. Did either have relatives in Scarborough? Were the witnesses related? If they had only been in Scarborough for the statutory 3 weeks before marriage, it is not surprising that a mistake was made with occupation and spelling of Ann's surname.
Ann's age varies a lot between 1851 and 1861 censuses as well as place of birth. Who would fill in the census form? Probably Robert in 1851, he could write his name after all. So he wrote what he believed was true without bothering to ask Ann. In 1861, Robert had passed away so it was left to Ann. Whether she filled it in herself or not (she had made her mark on marriage), the information on pob and age would come directly from her. I'm more inclined to think Pickhill than Bedale for pob.

Thanks Lizzie
If William WEDGEWOOD was marrying the Ann HEWSON born in Pickhill, would he be doing that in Pickhill and not Bedale. Ann WEDGEWOOD gives her birthplace in 1851 and 1861 as Bedale. William was an Excise Officer not a Tailor. Johnathan MERRYWEATHER was the Tailor.
Ann's sister Elizabeth married Johnathan MERRYWEATHER in 1804 in Bedale. The Ann born in Pickhill had a sister named Eliza, not Elizabeth. Again if he was marrying the Pickhill one why go to Bedale. In 1851 Elizabeth was Betty MERRYWEATHER and gave her birthplace as Bedale.
I am more inclined now to believe that it is the two Bedale sisters who have married MERRYWEATHER and WEDGEWOOD, and as you say the Pickhill Ann has married Robert KIDD.
Can't find Eliza HEWSON in Pickhill after the baptsim. There is a marriage of an Elizabeth at Pickhill in 1804 to a Richard BELL, with one of the witnesses being an Ann HEWSON.
