Title: Deciphering occupation on 1951 Census
Post by: RedPlume on Sunday 27 July 25 19:31 BST (UK)
Hi, I'm trying decipher the occupation for Henry Levett on the 1851 census (details below.) I can't quit e work out if that's a B or an R and the rest of the work is scrawled. There seems to be an i and an i, so maybe something like Brazier?

Thanks in advance  :)

Ossulstone (Tower Division), Stepney
HO107/714 Book: 6 Folio 28 p 11
Henry Levett 50 b in county
Jno Levett 10
Deborah Levett 14

When Henry's daughter Deborah married in 1868 he was a Brass finisher. So Brazier in 1841 is an allied trade.

Henry is also a Brazier when Deborah was baptised in 1854.

Agree, brazier. Did he have a brother Richard who lived in Broad Street Ratcliff, and was a nail maker/ ironmonger?

Thanks Tony and GC1. Numbers aren't my strong point, so I get them mixed up.

Thanks for the hints, I've only just started work on Henry, so that's really helpful. Henry's descendents were coppersmiths so a brazier makes perfect sense.
