I have been searching for Thomas Duncan who was born Nov 20, 1844 to Thomas Duncan and his second wife Catherine Johnston. The last time I saw him for sure was the 1861 Canadian census, when he was 16 and a laborer, living in Gloucester Township, Carleton Co., Ontario, Canada.
I have found a marriage of a Thomas Duncan to Julie A. Sullivan on 19 Nov 1873 in North Bridgewater, Massachusetts. He was a shoemaker, the first child of this couple was named Catherine born 13 Nov 1874.
This Thomas died Apr 8, 1907 in Brockton, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Would there be an obituary to resolve if this is the correct Thomas. Catherine Johnston is a sister to my James Johnston. She died in Apr 1856 in Gloucester Township, Carleton Co., Ontario, Canada.
Thanks for any help. Peggy

I didn't see an obituary. There is a Thomas H. Duncan in Brockton in the 1890 Veterans census who was in the military in 1864, possibly in Iowa. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K8SJ-RK5?lang=en
I found the church record for Thomas & Julia in St. Patrick church records in Brockton on americanancestors.org. It's possible to see images of Boston Archodiocese church records for free there, but they don't make it easy. Not sure if this link will work or not. https://www.americanancestors.org/databases/massachusetts-image-only-roman-catholic-archdiocese-of-boston-records-1789-1920/image?pageName=550&volumeId=56533&rId=1425838890 Anyway, they don't have parents' names listed there, but the witnesses were Daniel Sullivan and Catherine Foaley.

There is an application for citizenship on ancestry that gives a DOB of 10 November 1843 Canada for a Thomas Henry Duncan, not far off from the birth date you have.

Thank you Sandra and amondg. It is the 1870 census that convinces me that Thomas Henry is not the same person as Thomas, the son of Thomas Duncan and Catherine Johnston as Catherine Johnston was born in Ireland and had died in 1856, and Thomas didn’t die until 1886. This 1870 census implies that Thomas Henry Sr. was deceased.
Also, there is a death of a Kate Duncan in 1881, age 7 yr 2 months, and 21 days with parents Thomas and Julia which gives the places of birth of her parents and it gives Toronto, Ontario for Thomas and E. Stoughton for Julia which is correct for Julia. Although the age is slightly off, since their daughter Catherine was born Nov 13, 1874, and her date of death is between Sept 25 and Dec 1, and I think it is Sept 25. The occupation for Thomas is unreadable but I think it is Thomas Henry and Julia. If this info is correct, Thomas Henry was born in Toronto, not Gloucester Township, Carleton Co., Ontario.
I found the index card for the naturalization in 1882 for Thomas H. Duncan but I didn’t find the actual application, with Dob Nov 10, 1843. Is there an application?
I will look for the family in 1861 in Toronto based on the 1900 census. Thanks again. Peggy

I found the application for Thomas H. Duncan on Oct 30, 1882, in Brockton, shoemaker. In this application, he says that he arrived in Rochester, Ny in 1846, being then a minor under the age of 18 years. Says that he enlisted in the Armies of the United States and was honorably discharged therefrom on Sept 15, 1864 which agrees with the 1890 Veterans census that we found.

I found Thomas Henry Duncan, age 6 I think, in Rochester, NY in 1850 with his mother Catherine age 34, and sister mary Jane age 9. This implies that Thomas Henry Sr. Is deceased.

Thank you very much, shellyesq. I have concluded that this Thomas Henry Duncan is a different person than Thomas Duncan, son of Thomas Duncan and Catherine Johnston. For one thing, Thomas Henry is on the 1870 census in Brockton with his mother Catherine whereas Catherine Johnston was deceased in 1856 in Canada.
