Hello All
Hitting my head off a brick wall ::)
I have been searching Robert James Goodfellow Clarke and have found quite a lot of information on him..
Born 25/1/1918 to Catherine Goodfellow Clarke ( no father mentioned)
1921 Census son to his grandparents James Clarke & Mary Clarke ( maiden name Moore) ???
Next I find lots of information about him in a Japanese Prisoner of war camp WW2
The last information I can find about him is when he gives a statement about the ill treatment committed against him and his comrades He gave this statement to the Central Police Office, Turnbull Street, Glasgow, on 25th January, 1947.
I have tried marriages after 1947 date with no success.
I have tried deaths after 1947 date and used Catherine ( MOTHER) maiden name but also his grandmother maiden name as it appears he may have been brought up by them ( 1921 census and some information on war records)
Im stuck now , any help would be most apprieciated. :)

There are several marriages of Robert J G Clarkes in England after 1947. See screenshot.
You can order copies of these certificates from the GRO https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

If not already done, have you considered checking death records for either/both his grandparents, especially if after 1947, in case any clues there (eg if Robert was informant)? Did the 1947 statement include an address for him?

Thank you Forfarian this is very helpful . I will certainly have a look at these. :)
Thank you Scotmum I have both Mary and James death certificated the informant on both was there daughter Catherine ( Robert James Goodfellow's mother). :)
Thankyou both for your help.

Just an after thought
Is the information on and English marriage certificate the same as Scotland marriages? :)
-
As far as I know the information on the marriage certificate for England only gives the father's name
It will give the ages of the couple and occupation and name of witnesses
There is a death for a Robert James Clark
August 1995 Bristol age 77
Date of birth 25 January 1918
Might be worth checking

Thank you Rosie.
I did order that certificate a couple of years ago as I was convince I had the right Robert because of the birth date. Sadly it did not give any names of parents if I remember correctly. So I dont know if I have the right certificate. I did keep it just in case.
Thank you :)

No. The couple's mothers' names are not included in English marriage certificates.
And English death certs don't have the names of the deceased person's parents.

So frustrating just makes it more difficult to know if you have the correct ancestor. ::)
Thanks Forfarian for this information :)

Sometimes, when working using the individual's name is getting nowhere, going back over old research and focusing on known addresses can provide a new angle of approach. Searching based on the address/addresses known can, for example, throw up newspaper and/or other references that might ultimately link to the individual or an associate/family member and provide new avenues to pursue.

Great advice Scotmum , thank you

I think if you have a death certificate with a matching date of birth, and you can't find a possible other Robert James Clarke born in that date, it will be the right person.
Does the death cert say who his wife was?

I can’t remember , I would have to fish it out . I will have a look and see, it’s been a couple of years since I looked at it. However think you might be right.
Thanks again
