I am trying to find out more about a John Roscoe who appears to have been born in London c1864 and who joined the ship Liguria (no 69367)at Tilbury in December 1889 bound for Australia. He seems to have jumped ship in Melbourne in February 1890 - he had signed up for two years. I'm after more details on him so I can verify if he was a relative. Any help gratefully received

Welcome to RootsChat.
Can you tell us any more details about "your" John ROSCOE? Parent's names etc?

He(John Frederick Roscoe) was born Dec 1864 to John Roscoe(1840 - 1878)and Susannah Williams(1836? - 1912) in Battersea. He married Alice Harriet Slann in 1888/89 in London and is not traceable after that. I cannot find a death certificate. He was not living with his wife in 1891 but she says she was married, by 1901 she says she was a widow and by 1902 she had remarried. Like a lot of his relatives JFR worked for the railways in London first as a lampman then a stoker. The John Roscoe who went to sea was born in London and was employed as a fireman. I think there is a plausible link between the 2 JFR's but I would like to try and find something more concrete - ie naval/Australian any records in existence that would verify this. Thanks for your response.
