I have a photograph of a gravestone for a family plot, there are several members buried their.
Unfortunately it is difficult to make out some engraving due to moss and debris on the stone.
I have the details of where the stone is and family buried there.(Gorton Cemetery), is there any way i can get someone to visit the stone and decipher the engraving for me?
I am in Australia so i cannot do it myself. Any suggestions on how to get this done would be appreciated.

Where is Gorton? There's no way to tell from your post even what country.
Does the cemetery have a listing on Find A Grave? if so you can request a photo.

It may be useful if you post a photo on here in case we can help transcribe the memorial. If it means someone will have to remove moss etc to read it then maybe permission would have to be granted as it is not always the case that we can just randomly remove moss etc from these memorials.

John Charles Burgess born 1847 died 1907.
Other people listed in the grave are:

Elizabeth Ann Burgess Position 4
Elizabeth Burgess Position 5

After spending several hours using the GRO, Manchester burial records and a bit of luck i have found all 5 people listed for the grave.

As the year dates don't follow in a descending order ??? its likely the headstone was made at a later date

After some research of the Gorton Cemetery records it seems there is an Elsie Burgess who is the daughter of Edith Burgess also buried in this plot.

Its quiet possible there are other deceased bodies buried in that grave before or after the dates on the headstone as I said that headstone seems to have been engraved at a later date or as the headstone was filled up with inscriptions, it would mean a larger headstone to be needed to be made and maybe cost wise was not affordable! so they just buried the other deceased without an inscription - ?

thank you dobfarm, i suppose it will remain a mystery as to when the headstone was erected.

Well going by the inscription up to the word 'reunited' maybe was the original time the headstone was erected about pre 1936 and daughters added as an after thought! especially the 1915 entry maybe placed as well in 1949 to put both sisters on the inscription?, then run out of room on the stone for Elsie or Edith inscriptions but without researching stonemason records it will will remain a mystery unfortunately. The Gorton cemetery grave records of dates of burials are the more accurate anyway - so your research was not in vain.
