Hello all,
I'm looking for some help in regards to my 2x great grandmother Mary Jane Dixon.
I initially believed that she was born to John and Eleanor Dixon nee Thwaites 22nd September 1860 in Ambleside. A friend of mine who has been doing family trees for years did the initial leg work and now I have been re-examining all of his research and looking at other trees on ancestry.
However after re-examining some documents and census records I'm now not so sure.
She married Thomas Maclagan 28 May 1882 St John The Evangelist in London - her husband was a house painter and decorator. The marriage certificate states her father was John Dixon a Farmer. I purchased the birth certificate for the Mary Jane Dixon in Ambleside and her father was a Chaise Driver.
Census records after her marriage state she was born in "Cumberland How Mill, Carlisle - 1921 census), "Cumberland, Hayton, - 1911 census), "Holme Hill - 1901 census".
I know How Mill is a small hamlet near Brampton in Cumbria.
So now I'm thinking a whole branch of my family tree may be incorrect ??? ???

Using the new info - have you checked the censuses before her marriage for a match on the birthplace or father?

I found this article with a reference to Mary Jane's brother John Dixon. I'll have a look for a birth for a John Dixon.

Margaret married John Lapping in 1885 Brampton.
John Lapping was already in my tree, my 2x great uncle son of John Lapping and Elizabeth Hetherington. John was the brother of my 2x great grandfather Alfred Lapping who married Hannah Nevison Jackson.
Hannah Nevison Jackson had a daughter Margaret Lapping who then married Thomas Alexander Maclagan son of Thomas Maclagan who married Mary Jane Dixon.
Boy this is confusing!!!
