Title: Catherine Clarke
Post by: bettyrubble on Sunday 06 July 25 16:55 BST (UK)
Hello I am looking for parents of Catherine Clarke who was born in 1868/1869 in Cavan according to 1901 cencus. I know from her marriage cert to her husband John Carey they were living in Rathmines Dublin  at the time and her father was Thomas Clarke . These are what I’m definite about. I have found her death in 1901 in Dublin at o’Rielys cottages and believe she passed away after Childbirth of her twins Peter and Thomas.

Thanks All. Is there anywhere you can suggest I try to find her parents. I know dad was Thomas but no idea of mother. Would the NLI be best place to try?

Unfortunately they got married in Rathgar and it’s parish registers are not online
https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0531

See the link to Irish Ancestors on NLI site.

The church copy of the marriage may have the mothers names recorded so it would be worth trying to contact the parish but parishes don’t always respond.

I have found Children born to this couple being Mary Anne 18th October 1890. Catherine 1892, James 1894-1894 , Jihn  Joseph 1895, Catherine 1896 then Peter and Thomas 1901-1903. I’m thinking only Mary Anne and John survived as only ones on 1901 cencus

At least you know her parents are Thomas & Catherine

I did try here but drew a blank other that the one I previously posted with mother Jane  :-\  https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/search/
Have a look to see if you can find anything, you could also check for possible siblings and the marriage for her parents Thomas & Catherine

So it's possible it was her mother Kate Clarke who was one of the witnesses to her 1890 marriage to John Carey, her father Thomas occ labourer

Hi Ladyhawk. Rathgar sent me over the marriage entry this morning. Finally have mother’s name which was Bridget Farrelly before marriage . No idea who the Kate Clarke witness is though maybe her Aunt, I’m not sure I’m just guessing

Thank you both been very helpful. What I can’t understand is that they married in 1852 but no children till years later. Is that common?

Civil Registration of births didn’t start until 1864, you would need to check the parish register to see if there are baptisms of earlier children.

Sorry I hadn’t noticed the gap in the register, RootsIreland doesn’t appear to have a gap but difficult to be sure, https://rootsireland.ie/cavan/online-sources.php
It is of course a subscription site and only has transcripts not originally images.

BTW on the main parish page the link to Irish Ancestors will tell you what and where records exist.
