Title: Blake and Hickey families Tipperary
Post by: blamcca on Sunday 06 July 25 04:21 BST (UK)
Looking for some help or a point in the direction of where to look for further information on some newly discovered ancestors of mine.
John Blake, 27, servant, and Mary Ann Hickey, 23, domestic, married in St Francis' Catholic Church Melbourne, Australia in 1870. Details are all from marriage certificate.
Both born in County Tipperary, Ireland. Respective parents are Patrick Blake and Mary Richardson(?could be something similar handwriting is a bit hard to read) and John Hickey and Johanna Quirk/Burke.
Patrick Blake's occupation listed as Servant
John Hickey's occupation listed as Farmer
I am seeking further information on these families in Ireland but understand that it can be difficult to trace during this time. Appreciate any help!

Ballingarry RC parish registers show a Patrick Blake and Mary Riordan marrying on 22 November 1832, witnessed by Thomas Purdue and Sally Connell:

I can only see one baptism for this couple, in the same parish on 13 March 1836 for a son Richard, sponsors Thomas Purcell and Catherine Purdue:

Just mentioning this in case you think "Richardson" could possibly be "Riordan".

Thanks for this! Could be headed in the right direction.
Looked back over the marriage certificate and Riordan actually fits better than Richardson!

Another speculative punt, it's a marriage that took place on 25 June 1834 in Drom and Inch RC parish between a John Hickey and Joanna Bourke, the witnesses were Wm Emd (William Edmund) Bourke and John Cahill, I can't make out the placename over to the left, but it looks like it ends in "dstown" -  the entry below it has a location of Fishmoyne (townland in Kilfithmone civil parish):

There is also a Michael Blake, 26-May-1833, same parish, parents Patrick Blake and HONORA Riordain.
Sponsors Patrick Perdue and Nancy Noctin.

The overlap in sponsors (Purdue/Perdue) makes me think this might be the same couple.

the witnesses were Wm Emd (William Edmund) Bourke and John Cahill,

I think the first witness is Mr. Edmund Bourke. Indicating a certain social status.
