Title: Brick Lane, Middlesex
Post by: Ministeph on Thursday 03 July 25 09:16 BST (UK)
Hi !

I have a registration on Ancestry and can't seem to find the Walker Family living at 212 Brick Lane, Whitechapel, in 1861. Research by name doesn't help and I have tried searching through the census pages in the area but can't find Brick Lane... I am not sure if it would be under Whitechapel, Shoreditch, I even had a look at Finsbury...

Thomas Walker, Head,  born 1820, Weaver or warehouseman
Eliza Walker, Wife, b. about 1823
Mary Ann Walker, Dau, born 1849
Susan, Dau, born 1851
Sarah, Dau, born 1856
Eliza, Dau, born 1858
Thomas, Son, born 1860

I think at the same address or next door lived the Simmonds family, Thomas & Mary Ann Simmonds with their children.

Ay help on how I could find the images on Ancestry would be very appreciated !!  :D

Thank you !

I’m confused: if you can’t find them on the 1861 census, how do you know their address? Apologies if I have missed something  and the answer is obvious.

There was a baptism in 1863 indicating 212 Brick Lane as their address and somebody (here ?) many years ago had found them in the census and confirmed the address, I can't find the post anymore. I wanted to check the image and save it on my computer but now, impossible to find them or even Brick Lane !!

I have found a 212 Brick Lane West Side, Spitalfields. There are two families at the address. One name has been transcribed as Hamer at FindMyPast but it could be Walker: James [Walker] 29, and Jane, 27, no children.

If that's correct then (not checked these details on A***y):

RD Whitechapel
ED 12
piece 266
folio 64
page 38
schedule 186

Thank you very much for your kind help, Alan & Neale.  :D

I found the address on Ancestry, by looking through the Spitalfields census pages. Walkers aren't there yet, they probably moved in a bit later but I found the Simmonds (Mrs Simmonds later married Mr Walker which is why I am interested in both families).
