According to his New Zealand naturalisation documentation Carl Thomsen settled here from Augustenborg, Denmark in around 1860. In New Zealand he became known as Charles Thomson, he married Margaret Young, raised 10 children and worked as a gold miner.
I am trying to find when he left Europe and ideally which ship he travelled on, I've not been successful in finding him in shipping records, its possible he came to NZ via Australia. He was born in April 1843 to Thomas Thomsen and Catharina Soegaard. Can anyone find him on the
Hamburg passenger lists?
Many thanks in Advance,
Wendy.

Hi Wendy,
I've take a wee look and could only find a Carl August Thomsen born 1843 in Augustenborg to the parents you posted:
His birth record - nr 4:

1860 census. He wasn't recorded in 1860 - nr 48:

Here is the family in 1855 with a Christian August Thomsen with the same birth year.
1855 census - nr 40:

Augustenborg was part of Schleswig-Holstein back then.

I haven't found any records of him leaving Denmark. He may well have been a seaman.

Thank you Ian, much appreciated. He may well have been a seaman that would make sense. Can you tell their full address in 1855? I'd be interested to try to find it on a map.
Many thanks

You're welcome Wendy.
I'm sorry but I cannot make out what it says, unfortunately.
1845 census - top right:

The census is now in German.
