Hi,
I’ve found this wedding photo amongst the family photos and have no clue who the bride and groom are. I know the bridesmaid on the left, sitting down is named Margaret “Maggie” Rooney (later Hanna), born 1922, daughter of Joseph Conroy Rooney & Mary Theodorakis.
Currently I have a vague theory that the bride is Margaret’s elder half-sister Lily Theodorakis (b. 1917) who married Albert Harrison on 30 Dec 1939 at North Shields, Northumberland. Would that date be plausible with the style of the outfits, etc?
Thank you for any help :)

Hi
I see that no one seems to have answered your request.
I would think it is late 1930s. I'm not sure about the Dec 1939 date as two of the men are not in uniform and rhe third one might be in a non-forces one.

Add - Maggie Rooney - looks about 18-20

Was the bride older than the groom in the couple you mention? She looks somewhat older to me and the photo more recent than 1930's but am no expert.

Newspaper coverage of the 1939 wedding:

There is a description of the wedding in 1939 (no photo) but hard to tell in black and white but Miss. M Mooney is there.

You can't see her sleeves in the photo (the bride) to see if long or short.
Only one small attendant is mentioned.

There is a photo of the cake cutting but it is in very poor condition

Good find, Shaun. Given the date of the cutting. it was the 31st of Dec one :)

I know Lily was born in 1917, but no clue about Albert’s side unfortunately. There is an Albert registered in Tynemouth 1914 (with a younger brother Arthur) who could be him.
I’ve had issue with the fact there is two “little attendants” aswell

I do have a photo of Maggie’s wedding in 1946 for a comparison of her age

The description of the wedding outfits doesn't seem to match the picture. Shoulder sprays are mentioned and boleros for the bridesmaids but I can't see them in the photo
-
I agree that the newspaper description, does not match what is seen in the photo.
-
The photo and the newspaper account just don't match.
Was Maggie Rooney a bridesmaid to anyone else.

I was thinking the same, did she have any older sisters who could be the bride in the photograph?
