Trying to find where my grandfather was buried in Newcastle upon Tyne around 1951. John arthur Nichol. About 50 years old from shieldfield area
-
It's a very common name.
Did he marry, if so who was his wife?
Have you found him on the 1939 register? It will give you a date of birth
-
Have you his actual death registration?
You can look on www.gro.gov.uk You have to register, but it is free to search.

Welcome to Rootschat
If he died 1951 aged roughly 50 he would have been born around the very late 1890’s to early 1900’s.
There is no birth or death in Northumberland for a John Arthur Nichol matching that profile
There is no birth for a John Arthur Nichol between 1888 - 1915 anywhere in England/Wales/Scotland
-
The only death of a John A Nichol around that time is aged 73 Northumberland Central in Sep Qtr 1952
-
The 1952 death was John Albert

Welcome to Rootschat :)
If he did die in Newcastle it might well be possible to find a death announcement detailing the place of burial in the Evening Chronicle. But in order to do this a much more precise date of death is needed.
As already observed, Nichol is a fairly common surname, plus there are no John Nichol deaths in 1951 +/- 2 years which seem to match the profile you've quoted.
Are you able to give any firmer details? Do any of your family have a copy of his death certificate? Do know his actual address at the time of death, other than Shieldfield area?

You may need to contact the Bereavement Officer at the Council for them to search for the burial location and plot number, there would be a fee involved.
Also if he was not buried in Newcastle then other nearby towns may the location of his burial.
Gateshead is on the other side of the Tyne and is a Town in its own right.
To give an example, my family burial locations were found by visiting the local archive and manually looking through the records since they were not online.

If he was indeed buried in Newcastle, then quite a few of the cemetery records are available online via Family Search - some of us use them fairly frequently.
But we need to home in on the precise date of death before we can help.
-
We also need your grandmothers name & her maiden name. It's not unknown for people to swap their christian names around or totally omit them

I know from family research that there is an area in/near Newcastle with the name of "Walker", which is in the Long Benton area. So the whereabouts of burials and/or cremations in the area are a bit confusing to say the least..
"Christ Church, Simpson Terrace, Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne, was consecrated in 1861. While the church itself is located in Shieldfield, its churchyard is part of Walker Cemetery. The churchyard was originally 6,806 square yards but was expanded in 1864 and again in 1899"

Contact office in cemeteries or Archieves in City. Give name and year of death, exact date and month is possible. They are a mine of information and most helpful. Teesside/Cleveland area are brilliantly effecient and helpful; I found unmarked, communial grave site in minutes of asking. Most efficient! Well done. Good luck with your search.

Are you absolutely the certain middle name was Arthur? There is no matching birth or death within the times you have given.
However there was a John Robert Nichol born in Newcastle in 1900 . He married Eunice Graham and they had a son called John Arthur Nichol in 1922.
John Robert Nichol died in 1948 aged 49. He was buried at All Saints Cemetery https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSJ7-C3YH?cat=828595&i=150&lang=en
Eunice Nichol died in February 1991 and in her death announcement in the Evening Chronicle she is described as Eunice Nichol of Shieldfield.
So, in short, I am wondering if the person you are after is actually John Robert Nichol who died in 1948?
I await being shot down in flames ;D

New members often post and come back as and when they have time. If they are new they have no idea that regular posters will look and respond almost instantly.

What about this one?

The middle names initials are different.
Edit: Maybe a bit earlier than 1951?

Opening post says burial was in Newcastle - the one above was Leeds. It is also found on the GRO index
John Dixon Thomas Hunter Nichol
-
Re the 1947 death above. The 1939 register for Northumberland has 2 entries for a John Nichol - both born 1897 plus a John R also b 1897
Until Dando replies with further info it’s uncertain exactly which John Nichol he is referring to as there is no John Arthur Nichol birth or death in the timescale given

On Wed. 25th June, I went to locate an Unmarked communal grave of my sister in Oct. 1941. I knew the approximate area, but not the exact location. We met a gardener working on site, who kindly rang the office. After a couple of minutes and questions, we found we were within feet of the spot where she was buried.
We called into an office at the next cemetery on our list to check on two more sites; and mentioned the communal grave in he first one we visited. A note was made of name and date; and informed that a marker would be placed there, for future reference.
An hour ago today 30th June, the office rang to inform me that my Sister's Marker has been placed in situ. THAT'S WHAT I CALL GREAT SERVICE AND EFFICIENCY.
The offices have details of all graves to be able to pinpoint their resting place. Give them a ring with name, and approx date. They are a mine of information with the speed and efficiency of SUPERMAN!
WELL DONE. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.
