Title: 1609 parish birth entry - slightly confused at wording - help appreciated
Post by: Ronda231 on Thursday 26 June 25 20:06 BST (UK)
The Birth entry:

Adam Douglas had a son named Robert on 22-5-1609 - as per Scotlands people indexing - which is fair enough

Can anyone explain the wording in the corresponding parish birth entry image:

- could that be an 'elspit' after robert at the end of the first line & why three roberts - are these witnesses?

Many thanks & best regards

I believe it is:

Adam douglas; A S n. robert Wit

Robert Straquhan Robert douglas

A S n. = A Son named

ADDED:

The formation of W in this clip is inconsistent, but the one in the douglas record is

most like the one in the record above (a single letter at the start of the second line).

Thank you very much horselydown86!

The 'Straquhan' certainly had me beat.

Best regards
