Hello,
I'm looking for information on my 3rd Great Grandmother, Elizabeth JACKSON.
She married my 3rd Great Grandfather, George MOULTON (30/07/1797) in Acton, Cheshire, on 28 May, 1817.
I can find nothing in Acton, but in the Nantwich Parish Records, I have two possible Christenings.
Could anyone help me to narrow things down?
Thank you.

I take it these are the two Christenings you mentioned
Elizabeth Jackson
England, Cheshire, Bishop's Transcripts, 1598-1900
Christening 27 February 1799
Nantwich, Cheshire, England
Parents Peter Jackson, Elizabeth
And
Elizabeth Jackson
England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
Christening 2 April 1796
Nantwich, Cheshire, England
Parents Thomas Jackson, Sarah
Long shot but do any of the other above parents name (apart from the top Elizabeth) run in the family as that might be a clue ??? ???

Hi gc1,
Not really. That’s exactly the problem.
Other than Nantwich, she could have been baptised in (amongst others) Acton, Coppenhall, Bunbury or Wybunbury.
Their Marriage register has George ‘of the Parish’ of Baddiley, and Elizabeth ‘in this Parish’ - Acton.
They were married in the presence of John Moulton and Grace Williams.
Their first child, Samuel, was born In 1820, and they are living in Burland – part of the Acton Parish.
However, where Elizabeth came from is the unknown factor.
‘Family Search’ for some reason (Census?), has her birthplace as Coppenhall, but I can find nothing.

The first child is Mary bap 14 September 1817 Acton
Second / first male child is William bap 24 September 1820 Acton -- died ?
William bap 16 July 1821 Coppenhall - died? CORRECTED Typing error
Samuel bap 11 August 1822 Coppenhall
(Paternal grandfathers name /from George's age 47- 2nd marriage to Hannah Bate age 45 spinster --11 November 1847 at Middlewich)
Harriet bap 19 June 1825 Coppenhall
John bap 20 July 1828 Minshull
William bap 13 March 1831 Minshull
George bap 9 November 1834 Minshull
Thomas reg. 1839 mother's maiden name Jackson (GRO Index)
------------------
Wife Elizabeth died between 1839 and 1847
Ages rounded in 1841 so Elizabeth born circa 1801 plus or minus 5 years

Not quite correct. ;)
Ages on the 1841 census were supposed to be rounded DOWN to a multiple of 5 years.
So, a declared age of 40 would mean an age of between 40 and 44 - so a year of birth of between 1796 and 1801.

Hello amondg,
Thank you very much for your hard work. I already had the 3 Church Minshull children, but not the rest – especially Thomas, who was christened under his mother’s name. (I wonder why …)
And thank you KGarrad for your age qualification.
All very helpful.
Again, thank you.
:)

Where did you find the Baptism of Thomas born 1839 ?
-
I haven't - though I looked at a number of parishes. It was from your mail:
George bap 9 November 1834 Minshull
Thomas reg. 1839 mother's maiden name Jackson (GRO Index)
------------------

Yes, I looked, but found nothing. Thought it might give me a clue to his mother. I assume he was fathered by another man ...
-
NO
The GRO Index gives the mother's maiden name he was registered as Thomas MOULTON 1839 mother's maiden name Jackson,
he was the only one born after civil registration began, it gives you secondary proof of your George Moulton to Elizabeth Jackson marriage.

Aha!!! ::)
God, I can be so stupid !!!!!
I've just read it again, and it's obvious on 2nd, 3rd, 4th reading!!
I've actually got their Marriage Registration from both Parish and Bishop's transcripts.
But THANK YOU !!! I was going down the route of a 'rogue' relationship!! ::)
Have a great weekend!!
