Title: Medallion Identification
Post by: Syd R on Thursday 26 June 25 08:36 BST (UK)
Can any kind soul identify this medallion found in a case in Queensland, Australia.
It is copper about 25mm in diameter on the scarab beetle side it has the number 128 and letters CEC these are stamped in suggesting perhaps a membership number and a rank or position??

Any suggestions or advice on locating a source greatly appreciated.

Looking at the second image, possibly masonic?-- the triangle and all seeing eye could suggest this.

Possibly Masonic.
There are also religious connotations. Egyptian particularly.
Search for 'Eye of Providence', also 'Scarab Beetle'

Yes, I thought The Eye of Horus.
And as been said The Scarab Beetle.
Were there Australians at El Alamein - Western Desert?
Excuse my lack of info about that area of the war.
Viktoria.

Could we have a close up of the Inscription in the bowl under the scarab please. It appears to be written right-left like Arabic, but it doesn't look Arabic.

If you do an image search of the triangle side, there are quite a few similar looking medals - seemingly masonic or European.

The other side with the beetle doesn't really return anything useful - no medals with that type of image.

Yes, Viktoria, there were Aussies in North Africa. I wonder if the medal had anything to do with the fighting in Cyrenaica, Italian Libya. Cyrenaica had been part of Egypt at sometime before Italy invaded around 1930.
I don't think it is an 'official' medal, possibly  a masonic lodge commemorative for lodge veterans or if they were in North Africa something they picked up there.
OP are there any places connected to your relatives that have initials CEC? Towns, counties, parishes, do Au states have Counties/parishes?

The symbols around the edge of the RH medallion are astrological glyphs:for example,  the one at 4/5 o’clock that looks like 111 or M is indeed an M and is the glyph for Scorpio.

Does the inscription look like this?

Added: It's interesting that the eye looks upside down (bottom eyelashes) and the presence of the North Lunar Node symbol or maybe Leo symbol ☊
