1) I am interested if and how John Torr of Etna Furnace near Philadelphia West Jersey, yeoman, relates to Jaboel Torr of Scrooby, Nottinghamshire (Notts), England, UK, please?

2) Also if any link to TORR of Hatfield, Yorkshire, or that locality in Yorkshire, please?

I noticed that Jaboel Torr, of Scrooby, Nottinghamshire, in England, UK, was a Quaker and his Daughters:-

Phebe TORR married James BUCK

Rebecca TORR married Thomas DOEG.

Ann TORR of Stockton (Daughter of Jaboel and Mary TORR of Scrooby, Notts) married John ROBINSON of Stockton, Durham (Son of William and Sarah Robinson of Kirby Moorside, Yorkshire).

Thank you, Mark

Thanks Haines

Managed to find some Births now at Scrooby, Nottinghamshire:-

1739 Rebekah Torr Daughter of Jaboel & Mary Torr of Scrooby.

1740 Joseph Torr the Son of Jaboel & Mary his Wife at Scrooby.

1742 John Torr the Son of Jaboel & Mary his Wife at Scrooby.

1745 Ann Torr the Daughter of Jaboel & Mary his Wife.

1746 Phebe the Daughter of Jaboel & Mary Torr.

Looks like possibly their Son, John Torr, possibly at Etna Furnace, Philadelphia, West Jersey.

It seems Etna Furnace, can be spelt Aetna Furnace too, if I have found the right place.

Thanks for those Hanes, over the years I've had a quite a few original Probate files scanned.

None of my immediate families I am dealing with, especially my own, bequest to family outside of my already known documented family tree.

Some Executors and Trustees may be related, but those unknown to me that I have looked into only seem to be close family contacts.

My interest currently is Torr of Hatfield, Yorkshire.

Online there is a claim they moved to Ewell in Surrey after a boating accident on the Thames in 1859 where 13 family and staff lost their lives.

UPDATE: The boating tragedy did occur and the family involved did move to Ewell, but George Torr of the party (himself) was not from Hatfield, Yorkshire, nor born at Hatfield.

The newspaper reports and other information indicate that George Torr was staying at the residence of the late Princess Augusta, George Torr was linked to Deptford and had factory businesses or property in Deptford, Whitechapel and Rotherhithe.

George Torr of Garbrand Hall died in 1867. Their is a published book that mentions his Daughter Bertha Torr, marrying James Bell.

Online sources say Garbrand Hall was later renamed Bourne Hall by new occupier / owners, has since been demolished and a fairly modern building occupies the site.

George Torr seemed to be well established in business in the London area and there seems to be no printed or published Pedigree online.

Although the accident did occur it seems George Torr, was a Londoner, who had taken the household for a lovely day out, which ended in tragedy?

Updated: "George Torr late of Garbrand Hall in the Parish of Ewell in the County of Surrey Esquire deceased who died 7 July 1867 at Garbrand Hall aforesaid"

George Torr with Factories (linked to the boating tragedy), in 1851 is in the Parish of St Paul, Deptford, George Torr, 36, Chemical Manufacturer born White[part goes into next column which has check marks all down that column], Middlesex, married to Elizabeth Torr 29, born Stepney, with daughter Elizabeth Torr, One month old.

1861 Garbrand Hall, Ewell
George Torr, Head, Mar, 46, Animal Charcoal Manufacturer, Field Gate S L [or S t], London.
Elizabeth Torr, Wife, 38, born Commercial R' ? [R'd or 'a or 'e?].
George Torr, Son, 8, born, St Pauls Deptford, Kent.
Bertha Diana Torr, Daur, 8[?] M, born Ewell, Surrey.
Plus Visitor and Servants.

GRO in 1851 for Reg'n District Greenwich and the only Elizabeth Torr, Birth, says Mother of child, nee Jackson.

The Patriot, Monday, 25 December 1848

Dec. 20, at the Tabernacle, Greenwich-road by the Rev. George Rose, of Bermondsey, Mr. George Torr, of the Deptford Lower-road, to Miss Elizabeth Jackson, of Bethnal Green.

Not a sniff of Yorkshire in the Census, not even the 1861 Visitor, nor Servants!

ADDED:
Perhaps an examination of the 13 death certificates might reveal Torr family from elsewhere. However, without a published Pedigree of this family, it might not help me.
