Title: Henry Percy son of Algernon Percy the Diplomat
Post by: Bruce609 on Saturday 21 June 25 04:32 BST (UK)
I am looking for evidence of a Henry Percy, perhaps a Henry Prestilly Percy born around 1830 to 1833 allegedly the son of the Honorable  Algernon Percy  [1779-1833]  and an Anne Marie Fitzgerald. Henry appears in a number of family trees and also in some Wikipedia entries but without any references to original documents that can be accessed independently. Henry is not mentioned in his father's will which is available from the UK National Archives. The historians at Alnwick Castle do not have any details of him either, as he is not in the main line of Percy descent. One  Argentinian family's oral history has Henry to be their ancestor, whereas my families oral history has my 2nd great uncle Henry James Priestly as their progenitor.

Is there a reason this is on the Northumberland Board?

There was a Algernon Percy there.

He married Ann GRAHAM 19 Nov 1795 Alnwick
They bapt several children there 1796-1814
No Henry though.
He was a Clerk of the Colliery of the Duke of Northumberland
He  was buried 19 Sep 1839 age 74
His Father appears to be Andrew a Miller and Algernon was bapt 1766.

Have you found Henry on any census entries?

If he was born 1830-1833 & Algernon was his father - Algernon would have been around 65 when Henry was born.  Baptisms seem to stop at 1814 suggesting his wife may have been of a similar age so unless Algernon remarried - Ann may not have been Henry’s mother.

Who did Henry marry - when & where - & who does he name as his father on his marriage cert?

A snippet from Wiki..

There is no record of Percy ever marrying. He does appear to have fathered two daughters by a Luise Verena Tschannen in Bern, Switzerland, for whom he made provision in his will, there being additional evidence in Percy being named as the father in the baptismal record of the elder daughter, Emelia.[2][3] It is unlikely that Percy married Anne-Marie FitzGerald, illegitimate daughter of Lord Charles FitzGerald, 1st

Thank you to all who have responded. I posted this query on the Northumberland page as this Algernon is pa member of the Percy family that occupies Alnwick castle.  I too have found the records of hi "natural" Swiss daughters and the fact that he made provision in his will for them , but not for the nebulous Henry makes me think that Henry either was unknown to his father.. unlikely given the claims for Algernon having married..or that he was born of research error and then given a life on  the internet,  with people quoting other's work without validating it. However, I am far from infallible and wanted to ensure that I have not missed something. Any of the actual [ microfilm] documents I have found in relation to Elisa Dias de la Peña and her daughter, link to my GG uncle Henry [ Enrique] Priestly . Henry separated from Elisa not long after the birth of their daughter Enriqueta, and  died in Montevideo 1871.
