Hello,
In 1913 the “Cedric” (White Star Dominion Line) took passengers to the UK who were rejected by US Authorities!
How would I find out where they travelled from or which ship they tried to get to America on?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I'd start by checking the passenger lists at FamilySearch.

Thank you. I’m struggling!!
If they were rejected would they show on a passenger list going to America?
Also the ships log shows they travelled through Budapest. Doe that mean they travelled from Budapest to America?

"If they were rejected would they show on a passenger list going to America?"
If you don't look for them, you won't know. If they were rejected, it probably happened after they got off the ship and were declared unfit for some reason by the immigration authorities.
What names are you looking for?

Thanks for replying 😊
I have John, Suzanna and John Sieradski onboard the “Cedric” from New York to Liverpool on 11th July 1913. They then appear in the 1921 census using the surname Sieretsky before changing their name to Roscoe.
I’ve looked for various spellings of their surname travelling to America but can’t find anything .

Personally, I don’t think your Sieradski family was rejected by the USA? I believe it would be the 2 passengers found at the end of the passenger list below the statement that reads rejected by US authorities?
About the Sieradskis….
Under the column on the passenger list that asks country of which citizen or subject it looks like Austria.
Under the next column that asks country to which through or return tickets are held it looks like they indicate Budapest.
Under country of last permanent residence they have USA.
They indicate that final destination is a foreign + (word I can’t read).
So to me it looks like they had spent some time in the USA? Anyway, food for thought.
I haven’t been able to find them on a USA-bound passenger list.

Hi,
I agree with PB. I also believe that the Sieradski's were not rejected. Pages 1 and 2 of the manifest are separate pages. The 2 people on the 2nd page (names hard to read) that were rejected are a male age 35 and female age 11, both born Russia under section 11. Section 11 is likely public charge, the immigrant may not be able to support themselves, or it was a health issue, contagious disease.

Are they on the Ellis Island website as that might give you some more information.

Thank you all!!
I can’t find them on the Ellis Island website but that all makes much more now.
Does the “Through Budapest” indicate they were heading to Budapest?
-
I believe that would indicate they planned to go on to Budapest at the time of the sailing.

Thank you. I couldn’t find out what that meant
