Well here we are folks another week
Hope everyone enjoyed your weekend
Today is quite hot, seems it is all or none, a nice steady 70 would suit me.
Our priest is on a months holiday, he had 10 funerals in about 2 weeks including one very close to him, he needs and deserves a rest.
We have a new fund raising committee for a village and church fete, the church tower will be open with views across to Kent, nice views on a clear day.
Hope all is well with everyone.

It's certainly warm for the week ending 22nd January ;D

Just testing!

If this is a January weather I’ll take it every day… just so long as Junes doesn’t turn into January’s 😂😂😂

It all helps to confuse us all, doesn't it? Perhaps re-naming all the months would reduce the heating bills? If they were all called July or August...?
TY

Just keeping you all on your toes.

Even hotter today. Cats hiding behind drawn curtains in coolest areas of house. Self & OH doing similar. Phew!
TY

It is so hot, drains me to be honest?, bug 8n a few weeks we will complain it is to wet or to cold.
I cannot access My Heritage on windows 7, does anyone else have the same problems .
Keep cool.

I am having to give my user name and password every time, don’t know why-perhaps I am too “ talkative” and using up too much of something ior other ,
,
A lovely day here too, pork rice and peas for tea, pork done in my old faithful pressure cooker ,as usual I have cooked enough rice to feed half of China!
I will rinse it and put it for the birds ,the unused portions .
I am never sure about re heating rice.
My Captain Sir Tom rose which looked very sad , has responded to kindness and a good feed and has 22buds !
BU T ————Horsetail in the side lane abutting my fence —- I have glycophosphate but as we are up a hill above the river ,and such a lot of rain there will be drainage down hill perhaps affecting other gardens and certainly the River Irwell. However it does not like lime ,so that perhaps will be a solution.
A nice neighbour chops it down in his garden does not realise even one little bit can root and start all over again ,the roots go down metres and can and have crossed under motorways .
Always some problem or other.
That and Japanese Knotweed can stop house sales!
Hope all are O.K. I know there are many coping with health problems but they keep their chins up it seems to me.
Cheerio. Off for a cuppa and The Repair Shop.

Phew! It's hot already, around 22 degrees, so by the time we go out again at 4 it Could be scorcio. We've done our weekly shop and were home by 10 a.m., which was good, but my husband is holding a meeting later on in the nearest town, so we have to be there. I'll nip into M&S for some cheese - the cheese aisle refrigerators in Tesco were registering under 5 degrees this morning, so they couldn't sell anything from them. M&S is the only shop nearby which sells Lancashire cheese, so I always stock up when there. As a Lancastrian I have to keep up with my local cheese, though of course it's packaged, so nowhere near as good as a good chunk freshly cut off the big cheese. "Creamy mild" or "Tasty", anyone?
The pacemaker dressing comes off tomorrow, but there are still 5 weeks to go before I can raise my left arm above shoulder level. Front fastening tops are the order of the day and I was surprised to find how few of them I have.
-
Keep on being careful, Gillg, you don't want to pull or stress any bit before it's all settled firmly in. It's probably worse because of the heat - I've wilted today.
Took OH to have the lense bit of one of his cataract lenses" cleaned" yesterday - he'll be glad to be driving again! He hates being driven.
I hate trying to park in the inadequate car park there, so dropped him, went off parked somewhere else, ran back to join him, and after the quick procedure was done, had to dash back, to bring my car round and load him in! Phew, such a hot day, too!

I popped to my daughter to look in on the dog, dog sitter at work, they have a glass apex roof and it is like an oven, the dog isn't well and wants to find a cool spot, left him plenty of water.
When we got home the lounge is 27.5, I think we need to get the fan down.
Gillg, take care convalescing , have you blouses you can wear? the time will pass soon.
Keep cool
LM

LM
Yes, that's what I'm wearing, but find that those that I have are a bit formal looking, like ones you might wear with a suit! Today I have put on a much loved button-through dress which is very comfortable on a hot day (now 28 degrees :o). I'm trying to be patient, but want to do lots of things, all of which would cause me to raise my left arm. I even had to get my husband to fasten a necklace for me, which he found very fiddly.
Rain is forecast in a few days time and I expect everyone will be moaning about that!
Take care, everyone, and stay hydrated. :)
-
Take it steady and you will get there. Had mine done just before Christmas and all ok by mid January.
-
Yes, we will moan whatever the weather.
Forgive me for even mentioning this but have you looked in a nice charity shop to see if they have easy tops for you, you can get rid of them when you don't need them, just a thought, might make life easier for you after they have been in the washer, you need not tell soul.
I have what I called my posh cousin, I was astounded when she told me she frequented her local charity shop, mind you it was in a posh area, she recently died and I know when she bought anything it was always the best, her charity shop will be pleased to receive her wardrobe full of expensive clothes, minus the charity shop ones
LM.
-
Yes, LM
In the three small towns near us there is a distinct difference between the quality of goods on offer according to how "posh" those towns are. I think there are three grades of clothing and some of them are really good quality. I have no qualms about recycling clothes in this way, though a friend considers them as "dead women's cast-offs".
Another hot day, but today it's quite windy now, whereas yesterday there wasn't a breath of wind. Possibility of rain showers later.
-
Our local Hospice has a number of shops, one of which is a Boutique!
-
A nice fresh but not cold morning here ,sunny.
Drenched the plants- and me! - last evening ready for the flag cracking day forecast .
For those not used to that saying - flags are granite or milllstone grit paving slabs, the old Victorian ones, so some heat needed to crack those!
Son down South tomorow, not sure when he will be back ,but eldest son back now from holiday in Greece so I won’t be really alone.
Must get my Tesco order in ,not booked a slot yet ,I can take unusual times as I am almost always here.
Hope you are at least comfy Gillig , and feeling better.
Well I can’t believe it but baby Lily is feeding herself with a spoon !
Born November is almost seven months ,has been taking out and putting back her dummy, putting food in her mouth by hand and can turn over herself . I can’t remember the milestones but things have changed so much it all seems so early ,she will be bringing boys home next!
See a resemblance to Kyra her cousin , whose Daddy is Lily’s mummy’s brother.
Well ironing to do before it gets too hot , look after yourselves folks, and I hope all are at least comfortable .
Viktoria.

I don't think I'm dead yet ;D The good quality clothes I recently sent to a local charity shop are certainly not “dead women’s clothes.” Since a number of bad falls has left me housebound I know I will never be able to wear them, quite a few were brand new and still had the price tickets on them, this included obviously unworn shoes.
It's not uncommon to find brand new clothes in our charity shops.
-
I bought a couple of brand-new outer garments, I know you have to be picky , I send clothes to charity shops, what will happen when I depart this life who knows, someone might buy my nice clothes, if my posh cousin can shop in a charity shop and she was very very well off, so can I but I am very picky, you can tell if an item has been worn to death, no, not till death, worn to death, well worn.
Primark do reasonable clothes for a quick turnaround, not my type mostly but will do the job, I tried to encourage my grandaughter to shop there, i suggested she got a few mix and match items when she started her full time job till she could afford to but the expensive ones she normally buys, cut the labels out if you don't want people to know.
LM

My clothes are usually not fit for charity shops, they have been worn out!
My tops and any shirts, end up as my night (bed shirts) modern washing machines keep them fresh, but they are just a bit worn around the collar.
I kept getting a perfume smell in my bed recently, but no lady has graced my bed for a while. It was coming from some underarm roll on deodrant and smell has gone since I have moved it.
Mrs P, has sold up and moved away.
Anyway I won't be going on holiday when I read headlines like this:-
Our dream holiday was ruined by hotel shoot-out
Queues at airports, stress of flying and turbulance (I'm not a flyer at all). A neighbour who looks healthy, fit and clean (her house looks spotless from the outside and I bet the inside is too), in her 50s said recently that she always picks something up now and comes back ill.
There are some beautiful places and walks right on my doorstep and why do I want all that travel stress.
A family member was killed in a military air crash and they can stick it!
I did all that abroad stuff when I was 18 to 25. I went on Inter Rail too all round Europe, also did week-ends to Holland and Belgium and France. A couple of Islands in the Med., the Isle of Man too, about 20 times and some most beautiful and remote places in Scotland and also Wales!
London, Paris, Nice, France, the French Riviera, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Austria, Holland, Begium, Germany, seen the street entertainers (where we were warned beforehand, so some on the trip stayed in the Hotel), those of us who went had an absolutely great Summer's evening in our shirt sleeves and no they didn't get my wallet and nobody there pulled a gun either like a few weeks before.
The Police kept a presence with guns though.
Stood and walked on a frozen Glacier in Austria and did our tour of New Zealand, twice, etc.
When we got on one long train it was overcrowed and after we crossed the border into Italy everyone with their luggage was ordered off the train by Police with automatic weapons and we stood on the platform in the summer evening heat wondering what was going on. Then another locomotive with about 10 more coaches coupled onto the back. The train was now massive in length and the same Police told us we could get back on.
We were invited into or to strangers homes who were obviously well heeled and given drinks, today you couldn't do that!
When we asked this French chap why he had showed us hospitality, he said I could see you were English with rucksacks, that his Wife was English and had held a job in the government, she had passed away, he was a Pensioner and it looked like we needed a cool drink and he wanted a chat.
In Venice we went to a religious meeting of ours and this family invited us back and they had a beautiful waterfront home with cool marble floors, but sitting out on their terrace with sun screens, having a meal and drinks was most memorable and they took us out on their motor launch for an evening trip afterward.
When your immune system goes out of balance for an extended time after an illness I had actually recovered from and it causes secondary infections and upsets the functioning of organs, blood pressure, blood flow, I've decided to go for the avoidance option. I won't take anything if there is a possibility of certain reactions, rather than the live for today attitude.
My GP says to me, you keep doing what your doing, so I don't risk mixing in the crowd, but hey I have some great memories and even with my Wife leaving I have some great and wonderful memories with her too.
It was sad that she decided to move away, but I can't get sad, because I'm alive and even though I have to monitor and watch out for this or that, re my health, I can still communicate, developed a taste for nice natural foods and go for walks.
Life is what it is :)
Take care all and I hope those suffering get well, or can get their conditions stable.
All the best, Mark
-
Mark, what a wonderful life you have led, although we had a caravan for 40 years we really were never very adventurous, cautious more like, never took the van abroad but we did have a few holidays abroad, most memorable one was to tour New Zealand by coach, I would do that all over again, then we went to visit in Adelaide as an add on, should have made it a longer trip but now it is to late.
My husband doesn't want to go on holiday now, I think he is worried for health reasons, I won't go on my own as my grandaughter suggested.
Mark, no one can take away your memories, with or without Mrs P , cherish them all.
Keep up the communication. Take care
LM
-
Thanks LM, I understand how your husband feels.
The trouble is, something keeps triggering my immune system and was given strict instructions in 2021 not to use any medication etc., that will interfere with it.
I'm eating a diet that tends to calm ('modulate' is the term) the immune system, rather than rev it up.
Because an immune response that is too strong can cause accute organ failure and problems, or if it goes on for too long, cause long term failure and problems.

Mark, Keep doing what you are doing that best for you , you know your own body.
Off out today with the bowls club away day, I don't play but we get the opportunity to use up spare seats, off to Hythe, will be under a tree from 11 till three for me, I don't, or rarely sit in the sun.
Take care everyone, keep cool

LM, don't forget your summer hat and hopefully not too hot for you, with a cool breeze off the coast and some refreshing drinks.
Mark

Covered myself in sun cream, don't wear a hat but I am sure we are going be in the park area where there is a waterway, can watch the silly people trying to canoe, that should be fun, with an ice cream or 2.

Quite simply we stay inside, curtains drawn, fans on, with cool - but not alcoholic drinks to hand, and do as little as is humanly possible in this sort of weather! Even put an ice cube or two in the cats' water bowls.

The town was busy with tourists today, but I managed to find a nice button through linen top in a charity shop, so will wash it through along with my bedding tomorrow, when we have one hour's free electricity (2-3 pm), courtesy of our kind electricity company. Another reason it's busy is that it is Gay Pride Day, and all sorts of things are going on in the town, with some very strangely dressed folk and lots of music. It certainly livens up this sleepy and rather old-fashioned seaside town!
Yesterday I had the dressing from my (pacemaker) wound removed at our GP surgery. The hospital had told me that I could remove it myself, but I'm glad I chose to go to the surgery, as the practice nurse told me that the wound had not quite healed, and she put on another dressing, which can be removed, either by me or at the surgery. She had to use some tweezers for the job, which came in a a sterile packet, and offered the tweezers to me at the end, as she would otherwise have had to throw them away! They were rather good sharp ended ones, so I took them home with me. You never know when you might need them!

It's cooler here - max 20C today, 24C yesterday.
I sit out, just wearing shorts, but come in between 12:00 and 14:00.
Drink plenty of fluids.
Having to measure fluid input and output at the moment; but last day of 3 today.
Never had to measure my mug of tea before! :D

We agree TY - inside unless there is shade to sit in. We have been refreshing our viewing of Downton Abbey early episodes. We have the set on dvd so it’s very useful . Tv has been showing the series and I think it’s on to series 5 but we were late to their showings so went back to the beginning. Just what you need for doing ‘as little as possible ‘ as you say.

A strange weather day today, bright early sunshine that promised a scorcher.
Son’s bed completely stripped all washed and both lines full.
Then it got very dark and some rain , short showers but still warm.
However managed to get all dry and ironed.
Son is off to his old Uni friend in Birmingham.then on to Head Office.
Away about a week.
Tesco delivery about ten O’clock .
Hope your wound heals well Gillig ,and that your measuring was accurate, K.G.
I have a few items from Charity shops, my prize is a little red jacket still with labels from ,so never worn, from John Lewis , price £64 ,charity shop £16-!
I give lots away but I ought to have done most well before now.
I lost a lot of weight so had to get new clothes, but in the event I shall gain weight I have hung on to many favourites.
I have two bags of clothes to go, some books, a radio / CD player that just needs some attention but works. The shops all have an electrician who safety checks all electrical products
I bought a really large SlowCooker , had a smaller one but for big batch cooks the large one is wonderful ,only £7 for something probably priced at teens of pounds .Had the label to show it had been checked and tested.
I have a pair of brand new expensive shoes , cost a fraction of the full price.
They had never been worn, the soles still shiny and totally unmarked.
We buy things in shops that other customers may have tried on , we never know.
I have lots of good educational toys for when the tiddlers come, at a fraction of the cost new. They played with communal toys at Nursery and I don’t see the difference..
Well time for a de - caf coffee. Tesco delivery then bed.
Hope all have a good restful night .
Cheerio.

Seems like it's rather keep cool, calm and carry on best as possible with reading posts this week, definitely wintry weather to come for down under with having just had shortest day but some good and mild days in the mix thankfully. Autumn leaves still clinging on here and there and a pretty day to end a holiday weekend today.
I also have plenty from op shops, don't like useful items going to landfill and happy to donate or buy. A few very good buys for my wardrobe over the years, so much textile waste with high fashion and super cheap clothing alike when it comes to women's clothing in particular! My children were happy to have a few garments from a friend's daughter a bit older and now same scenario with oldest granddaughter, some 'designer' items grown out of. Fortunately not too much in way of designer items about when my girls were young, made most of their clothes myself, including school uniforms and dance wear etc as did my own mum with perhaps something shop bought rarely but otherwise home-made/ hand-me-downs from sister to sister and comfortable with that :)
As for comfort ... wish all that for each as we see out another week!
-
It's cooling off now and a bit breezy, so more comfortable for doing things. Rain may come, but yesterday we just had the odd short shower mid-day.
Recently I was looking for a pair of smart-ish navy shoes to complete my outfit for my nephew's wedding and was frustrated by the sandals and trainers which were on offer in the shoe shops. I was passing a charity shop which had a closing down half price sale on and popped in to see what I could find. No front fastening blouses, but a pair of lovely and obviously expensive navy shoes which were partly strappy and partly enclosed, moreover they were in my size, usually a very popular size so difficult to find. I tried them on and found them to be both comfortable and smart. At half price they cost £2.20, so I snapped them up and am now ready for the wedding in a few weeks' time.
My wound is healing fast and is not sore, but by the end of the day my shoulder aches just from doing ordinary things (not above shoulder height, of course!). The practice nurse told me that the shoulder has suffered "a lot of trauma" and bruising. My daughter is coming round to wash my hair later this morning, thank goodness. I will have it washed and blow dried at the hairdresser's the day before the wedding and hope to look smart, or at least as smart as an old lady can do, at the festivities. We just want a warm, dry day.
-
I used to make my own clothes, then I made my daughters , no school uniform, also made her a cardigan to match, not made my clothes for a long time now even though i have a whizzy machine, I worked in a materials shop 12 hours a week, we paid cost price plus VAT, I still have a box of material unused.. No shame in going to a charity shop, you can always see how worn they are
Hot here in Essex, hope it cools just a little.
Take care, keep cool.

It's cooler here today and there's quite a breeze. Perhaps it will ease the traffic, yesterday it was gridlock and terrible parking. Once again we have selfish drivers wanting to park as near the beach as possible, where there are double yellow lines on one side of the road to allow traffic to flow Instead selfish idiots parked all along the pavement instead.
There's been illegal camping on the beach again and in the last three weeks three cars have been stranded in the sand, including a 4 x 4. It beats me how they have managed to down to the beach from the promenade. ???
Don't get me started on the litter they leave behind, it gets worse every year, no wonder that part of our council tax has rocketed. If it was up to me the government would bring in a law that has the beaches fenced off and visitors charged to gain access. Unfortunately that can never happen. It wasn't like that when I was young, everyone either put their rubbish in the bins provided or took it home with them. I used to go down and swim in the evenings after work, there was never a mess like you see today. There's something to be said for being housebound, such problems don't affect me.
That's my moan for the day. ;D
-
Well, a grey wet day here, after a nice moderately warm start.
A quiet day altering a nice dressing gown which is far too big now.
Trying on some unworn and some worn once only outfits for grand daughter's wedding .
Everything is too big, so looking online for something nice and understated.
I am only a size 8-10 now,
I had made my mind up what I would wear but a little sleeveless top I wanted to wear under a really nice worn only once jacket shows my arms which are like a sparrow's legs.
Actually if I had to take off the really nice jacket and showed my arms people would probably throw money at me!
Have looked online ,some lovely outfits but I must remember I am 88, all the models are young .
Glad things are getting a bit better for you Gillig , but it is a long time to have a sore shoulder.
Talking shoes, at a bazaar at Church ,a lovely old lady was on the bric a brac
stall.Another lady joined her ,having driven to church, she changed her driving shoes and put them behind the stall.
Went to get two cups of tea and had a little chat with the tea ladies.
On her return to the stall, with the teas, she was asked how much ought to have been charged for the driving shoes ?
Yes,the first Lady had sold the other lady’s shoes!
Well no book to read ,unless I re read something ,re read Cranford a little while ago. ,so must look for something else.
Good night everyone ,and let’s hope the trouble in the Near East is soon resolved .
There is an old saying “ Before you destroy something make sure you can replace it with something of value” , wonder how things would have been had The Shah of Iran had not been deposed?
I never fully understand these political situations.
Viktoria.
a size 8-10 now
