Title: Mining Accident
Post by: gnorman on Sunday 15 June 25 22:55 BST (UK)
Hi everyone,

one of my relatives, Charlotte Doleman, was married very briefly in 1853 to George Roe b.1832 in Staffordshire. He died in the same year in a mining accident at Herberts Park Colliery, Darlaston. The death certificate says he fell down the pit with the scaffold falling on top of him but I am trying to confirm this is the correct person as his address is not mentioned in the death certificate and only the coroner is mentioned as informant - Charlotte remarried in 1855 as a widow.

I wondered if this may have been recorded in a newspaper at all?

Thanks, Luke

I can see multiple reports about a boiler explosion in July 1853 at Herbert's Park where 3 men died. However I can't see anything in newspapers about George ROE or an accident later in the year - I presume this is his death Dec qtr 1853 (6b/312)? Others may have more luck looking.
