Hi, I, m looking for some help tracing these 2 ladies after 1881 when they were both in service in West Derby Lancs. Jane was 17 and Martha 13. Can't seem to find a marriage for either
Cheers
-
Both were born in Shropshire to Joseph and Ellen
-
Jane was Jane E & you can find her in 1901 as Jane E Harrison still in Lancs & shown as a widow.
Birthplace shown is same as 1881 entry
Can't see the 1881 entry you mention for Martha. Please post piece/folio/page number
-
Marriage of Jane is on freebmd in 1891
-
www.lancashirebmd.org.uk shows it was a civil marriage so can't be looked up
-
There are too many Martha Carter marriages 1885-1891 to determine the right entry
-
1871 entry shows Martha was b St Helens Lancs - not Shropshire ::)
-
Look at freebmd - marriage 1890 to James Hart is a possibility. Check the 1891 census to see what birthplace is given

Seems James and Martha had 5 children and Martha was still alive in Chorlton 1921. Can't see a death for her or any marriages for her children.
-
I actually just found Jane while searching for her sister Seberiah, both in the same house!
-
Are you sure she was Martha - she is not on the 1881 census with Joseph & Ellen & your current post refers to a Mercy Carter who is on the 1881 census entry??
