Title: Flora Rhodes DILGER British Columbia
Post by: Macushla on Sunday 15 June 25 11:05 BST (UK)
Good evening from Adelaide, South Australia.
I think I've just found my first Canadian connection.
I have a Flora RHODES, b. 30 Dec 1874 in Gomersal, Yorkshire, England, who I believe married Charles DILGER in Canada. I have a gravesite for the couple at Pleasant Street Cemetery, Kamloops, Thompson-Nicola Regional District, British Columbia.
According to the gravesite, Charles's dates are 1871 - 1938; Flora's are 1875 - 1948.
I know that Flora was still in England in 1901 as I found her in the census 'in training for Colonial employment'.
The next that I can find her - if I can prove this is all the same person - is a marriage in 1926 to Charles DILGER. I have no other dates etc.
I'm hoping that someone will please help me to see if there was an earlier marriage for Flora, and if so, if she had any children, and any further information about her, especially if it can help me to confirm that I am on the right track.
Many thanks in advance,
M.

I can see an index entry for a marriage in Kamloops in 1907: Charles Dilger and Flora Rhodes.

There's a Flora Rhodes on a 1901 list of women (and others) brought to Canada by the United British Women's Emigration Association.

ShaunJ thank you so much!
I had planned to enter a dummy date for the marriage and somehow entered 01 Jan 1926. Thank you so much; I would have been way off track without this information. Kamloops makes sense as this is where they are buried.
Flora emigrating in 1901 makes perfect sense as that was the same year that she was training.
This is a great start for my research into Flora, I'm very grateful.

Sandra and ShaunJ, thank you both so much.
How very sad to read of Charles's death.

It looks like they did not have children as they are not mentioned in the articles about Flora's bequests.

Hi,

From British Columbia archives,

The 1907 marriage, Flora gives her parents as Robert and Mary Ann.

Thank you so much, DB.
This is definitely my Flora. The parents confirm it.
It makes me so sad though. So many blank spaces on that form.

Yes, both of them so sad.

I think this is them on the 1911 Census in Kamloops. They are 4th and 5th from the bottom.
Charles age 40, and Flora age 32.
Click on the image and then click to enlarge. Ignore that it is for Francis Rushton. It was a bad transcription and that was the way I found them.

And then in 1931 census, on Seymour St. Kamloops which matches Flora's death cert. The very
bottom of the page. They were transcribed as Delger.
Charles age 61, and Flora 54. It says Charles is retired. Health issues perhaps to retire at 61.
