FindMyPast allow you to search by address for all the census - 1841-1921 plus 1939 Register.

If a house was empty on the survey date, unlike the census it will not appear, but you should find the houses nearby.  I have found a few households who had moved out of cities if they had the chance, to stay with relatives, I think because there was a fear of imminent bombing raids.

FindMyPast allow you to search by address for all the census - 1841-1921 plus 1939 Register.

Thanks.  I couldn't find the exact address on FindMyPast but found lots in the same street.
I cross checked on Ancestry and found it. It just said 25 public house and I know that's correct.
Thanks for that tip especially as I don't subscribe to FindMyPast.

I'd never tried on Ancestry, but thought I have a firkle for a fairly long road in Gateshead, Co Durham.
Left everything blank on the search for except:

Lived in: Gateshead, Durham, England
Keyword: Old Durham Road

and it brought up 323 results.

I then changed the Keyword to 18,Old Durham Road as I know which family lived there and it brought up just that household.

No guarantees it will work every time but in future its worth a shot if you are stuck ?
