Title: What is the word in the text
Post by: Brian E 1 on Wednesday 11 June 25 16:51 BST (UK)
From Baptism Register Kirtlington, Oxfordshire.      1629.

I believe it reads " Thomas ye sonne of Edward HALL was baptized ye laft day of May being    ~~~~~     Sunday                  1629.
I cannot make out the word ~~~~~.

However, what also complicates is the calendar record for the year 1629, today, it shows that May 31st  was actually a Thursday.

Also, I cannot find details of a religious feast or festival that corresponds to or is in proximity to the date / day. Excepting, that it might well be Pentecost, which is / was celebrated around this time. But, to me, the writing as observed, does not look to show Pentecost.

Any assistance / knowledge much appreciated.

Thanks Brian E

It's Trinity Sunday - obviously Easter must have been very early that year for Trinity Sunday to fall in May! It's celebrated the Sunday after Whitsunday/Pentecost.

31st May was a Sunday in the old Julian calendar which would have been in use at this date. Trinity Sunday is 8 weeks after Easter Sunday which was on April 5th that year, according to Google  :)

Brian, a minor point of style for your transcript - it is the sonne and the last day.

There's no ye in the clip.
