Yes we don't know when he was a school teacher, is it in the 1950's or more recent?

South Wales Echo 22 March 1989 says he was then aged 75 and taught for 22 years before retiring. Previously a miner. There are newspaper articles in connection with his service with the International Brigade in Spain in the 1930s and subsequent commemorations and television programmes, and his campaign against opencasting near Rhymney in the early 1990s. These articles include some biographical information. Some mentions of his work as a Councillor, and being a teacher. Newspapers accessible via the British Newspaper Archive or Find My Past.

I discovered today that on leaving Spain in 1939, he immediately enlisted in the 7th Armoured Division, 8th Army in North Africa. Following his Army service, he undertook a teacher's training course at Llandrindod Wells and proceeded to teach in Clyro, Radnorshire, and eventually at Rhymney.
possibly during the 1960s, 70s

According to websites, after being a miner and before going to Spain he went to Coleg Harlech and then Ruskin College Oxford.
Swansea University have a 2 hour recording of him mostly talking about his experiences in Spain but might include something about his life afterwards.

I have listened to the IWM recordings which are excellent for his early life and the Spanish Civil War.

Jim Brewer lived quite the life—from miner to Spanish Civil War vet, teacher, and councillor. Born 7 April 1913 in Rhymney, he later taught at Rhymney Comprehensive School and served as a local councillor. He passed in 1993 in Pontypool. You’ll find his birth and death in the England & Wales indexes. Try the 1921 Census for family details and check with Gwent Archives for school or council records. FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org) and YourRoots (https://yourroots.com) are great places to search for records and build his family tree. Happy digging—and let us know what you uncover!
