Post by: pete hancock on Monday 09 June 25 14:59 BST (UK)
Hi I'm trying to order a death certificate from GRO, but the death record on Find My past isn't showing the Volume number, page number and district of death, how do i request it?

What details do you have? Name, date and place?

Use FreeBMD?

Or search for the entry on the GRO itself

What year is it for?

Thank you all for your replies. No record on BDM. I only have a probate record which states the death date, this sadly does not show the volume and page numbers required to order the death certificate from GRO

Does the probate record not state a place as well as date of death?

Possible the death was not in England and Wales, only the probate?

Can you give us the exact wording of the probate entry?

FreeBMD (NB not BDM!) has Births and Deaths from 1st July 1837 until 1983.
Post 1983 you will need to use GRO (https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp) which has deaths from 1837 to 1957 and from 1984 up to 2 years ago.

If you tell us who you are looking for, and date of death, perhaps we can find it for you?

P.S. the above refers to England and Wales. Scotland NI, Isle of Man and Channel Islands have their own systems!

Was the death in the UK?

You can search the GRO death index just as you have searched FreeBMD index.
