According to his burial record (transcript on FindMyPast) James Dunsdun was buried in Steventon in 1843, aged 61, making his birth year about 1782. I believe he was the father of James Dunsden jnr baptised in either Steventon or Stanford in the Vale (residence given as Steventon) on 11 July 1819. The mother being Ann. (When James jnr married on 18 Jul 1843 in Drayton to Martha Taylor, his father is named as James).
Can anyone please find James snr in the 1841 census and his baptism and his marriage

Hi LizzieL,
Yes, I believe I have found him aged 60 in the Steventon census for 1841. It is so feint even after I inverted the colour you cannot read the writing.
Details are on Steventon, H.O. 107/24/17 page 8. Hundred; Ock, Regis. Dist. Abingdon
There is also other information on him & parents on Ancy..
Would you like some screenshots?

Thank you Alan. It looks like James jnr is with him. But no Ann so she must have died before the census. I have found a number of trees on Ancestry, but so far no-one has his baptism. It looks like Yes to born in county. The first child I have found for James and Ann is Jeremiah bapt in Steventon on 27 Jul 1806. So possible marriage abt 1804/5 ish, which fits with a birth year abt 1782.

Found marriage, transcribed as Donsdon, should have tried that variation earlier. on 31 Oct 1805 at Steventon to Ann Bavis. But who were his parents?

Me again,
There is a James Dunsdon - m - Ann Bavis 31-10-1805 in Steventon
(wits; Thomas Greenaway, Elizabeth Carter)
By Banns. (sorry just noticed you found them)
also for info;
James Dunsdon - bapt. 11-7-1819 (bn; 6-7) s/o James & Ann, Labr
Jesse " " 31-3-1822 " 29-3 " " "
When looking thru the transcripts from the Oxon FHS CD I noticed there is a very large contingent of Dunsden/Dunsdon etc.
Hope this helps - will try looking for James' parents/

Thank you. That makes her a bit older than James and 29 when she married. I can't find a likely baptism in Steventon or nearby. I wonder if she was a widow when she married JD

Clever pick up Lizzie
It doesn't say on the marriage to James Dundsen but it looks like she was.
John Bavis married Ann Taylor 9.3.1796 Steventon.
John buried 19.8.1803
Children- Moses 4.9.1796,Aaron 30.9.1798-27.3.1831,Dina 21.9.1800 and Jeremiah 2.1.1803-25.12.1803.
Possible bapt at Wantage
Ann Stroud Taylor 20.8./bapt 27.9.1775 d of Richard and Mary Taylor.
Death Cert for James does put him a bit older but the age is down to Sarah Bunce so maybe she wasn't sure.
James Dunsden 23.6.1843 age 70 lab Steventon ashmatic inf Sarah Bunce.
So birth 1773 which doesn't fit with the census or burial.70 abit too much of a round number for me.
But you were right Ann was a widow.
