I am trying to find my 3xGmother Sarah Lawrence. She married William Miller in 1807 at Higham Ferrers and is buried in Higham Ferrers Cemetery (1854 aged 71). The 1851 census shows that she was born in Higham Ferrers but I can find no trace of her birth or baptism.
-
They married by licence. I can't quite make out one of the witnesses on the parish record: S--e ? LAWRENCE. I can't attach the image here on a lookup board - have you seen the original image?
-
Thank you for your reply. I have only seen the bishop's transcript not the original parish register,
-
In case you haven't seen it.
Northampton Mercury dated 18 March 1854
March 10th at Higham Ferrers Sarah wife of Mr. William Miller, Griffin Inn aged 71, for 48 years a resident of the same Inn.
-
Image of the marriage on ancestry.
Witnesses are Wright Richards, Elizabeth Miller, Samuel Fowler and Jane? Lawrence
Everyone signed their name.
-
FreeREG has some HF records but the 1807 Marriage is the 1st on there.
3 more Lawrence Marriages are later;
1823/1827/1829
Esther Meadley is in Leics 1851 born c 1798 Ruston (image is age 62 so born c 1788)
1861 Esther Meadly is born c 1789 Higham Ferrers
So possible sibling for Sarah if a bapt can be found.
I did notice a burial of JANE Lawrence 23 Sep 1855 age 77, marriage witness?
Think Janes age is out 1851 born c 1789 Rushden, Northamptonshire, Unm, Retired Inn Keeper.
Burial has her born c 1778.
Possible 1841 Jane Laurence 1781 Northamptonshire, Independant
EDIT
There is a Esther Lawrence bapt 26 Sep 1786 St Mary, Rushden to WILLIAM/ESTHER
+ a Elizabeth bapt same day
HESTER Lawrence wife of Wm buried 08 Apr 1806
WILLIAM Lawrence buried St Mary 26 Mar 1814, no age given, abode Higham Ferrers***
Tried but cant seem to tie them all together due to lack of bapts for Jane/Sarah.
-
It is possible there is a connection as William/Sarah Miller name children Esther/William..
Not sure about Northants Wills but it would be great if William Lawrence left one.

There are several other Lawrence baptisms in Rushden -
Elizabeth 1783, Thomas 1785, Elizabeth 1786, Esther 1786, John 1789.
Thomas died as a baby in 1785. There's a John died 1824 Higham Ferrers aged 31, who left a Will.
The 1783 Elizabeth was only entered in the PR as "(blank) d (blank) & (blank) Lawrence", with the names only in the BT. Could that be Sarah?
William & Esther were married in Rushden in 1777, he was of Newton Blossomville, Bucks, while she was of Rushden.
The Buckinghamshire Baptism Index on FindMyPast has a daughter Jane born 8 Jul 1778, bap 21 Dec 1778!

And the NRO Catalogue lists

Esther was born Esther Richards, daughter of Thomas & Jane of Rushden. Thomas, of Rushden, left a will when he died in 1797.

Thank you for all the responses so far.
I can see the BT of the marriage on Ancestry but cannot find/see a copy of the Parish Register with witnesses. If anyone could paste one I'd be grateful.
-
Do you mean the marriage of William MILLER and Sarah LAWRENCE? The image is on Ancestry - if you have account :

As I mentioned, we can't attach images to this thread. I've uploaded an image here:

Thank you. I have now found the register entry

Well looks like I was on the right track given William Miller and Wife Sarah mentioned in 1814 Will.
Thanks for that jonwarrn and also to you PrawnCocktail.
I always look at other Marriages around the same time as one stated to see if they may be siblings weddings and often come up trumps!
Trish :)
