Hi All, not too sure where to put this as it relates to Liverpool but also to Ireland....
I was hoping people out here could help read through my musings around William James Brown born 1865 Liverpool to William Lewis and Catherine Mc Donough and his Wife Mary Eliza/Elizabeth Brown.
I did get the marriage certificate for William James Lewis and his wife Mary E Brown. Dads are confirmed as William Lewis and William James Brown.
I've struggled somewhat trying to trace the brown family back but have some thoughts on this given the little information I have stumbled across and wondered if what I have found seems to make any sense to anyone out there....it may need confirming with yet more buying of records.
Mary Eliza/Elizabeth Brown born 1900 Liverpool, was the daughter of Michael James Brown 1865 and mother Jane A Roberts 1877. Michael's mmn on the GRO is spelt Gillfoyl....now we all know the spelling errors that occur with doing family trees....
Im struggling for records but have found the following

I know by 1921 William James was deceased as this was entered on the marriage certificate of his daughter Mary Eliza Brown who married William John Lewis.
I cant seem to find records that well right now for either families but do you think I may be on the right track with regards this family
Havent got anywhere yet with the Gilfoy/Gillfoyle/Gillfoyl side yet.

@gc1 yes that could be him. I found a 1911 census for what I believe is Jane and children and the last child was born 1905 - BROWN, JAMES ROBERTS
GRO Reference: 1905 S Quarter in LIVERPOOL Volume 08B Page 67. Jane is down as widowed in 1911 so that would make sense the death record you found. Thank you

Here's another spelling of Eliza's surname for you on the baptism of Michael's sister, who is with him with their maternal grandfather on 1881
Catharina Brown
Birth 3 Aug 1868
Baptism 9 Aug 1868, St Mary's, Liverpool,
Father Jacobi Brown
Mother Eliza Gillfoin
You mentioned "1881 census where he may be down as grandson to Michael Gilfoil who was born in Ireland. There is Irish connections in the family I am doing the tree for, James Gilfoy/Gillfoyl is listed but no mother? But he's down as unmarried."
James Gilfoy would be Eliza's brother, and Michael's uncle, so quite possible he's unmarried. Michael's father is James Brown

I note from 1871 there's another Brown grandchild with Michael Gilfoy - Mary E b Manchester c 1866. She's potentially n a home in Manchester in 1871.
So we may need to cast our net a little wider. I wouldn't be surprised if one or both parents had died by 1871

@Mabel Bagshawe I did notice the grandchild in the home Mary E Brown as you mentioned. I did wonder as to why she was in a childrens home. I haven't been able to find anything on Eliza Gilfoy/Gillfoyl or however its supposed to be spelt as of yet or her origins.

Regarding Jane A Roberts partner of Michael J Brown b. 1865, I cant find no marriage record so presume children born out of wedlock. I have managed to find a birth reg for Mary Eliza, Margaret Ann and James brown all down on the 1911 census with Jane, but the daughter Jane born around 1902 I cannot find any record for. However, there is a record for an Alice Brown mmn Roberts. However Alice has no middle name of Jane...so confusing
