Marriage-Locator (https://one-name.org/marriage-locator/) can't find this marriage.

This means it was a Register Office, Catholic, Methodist or other non-Anglican marriage.
Getting the marriage certificate may be the best course of action.

Despite Ulverston Registration District being part of Lancashire at the time, Ulverston records do not appear on Lancashirebmd.org.uk, which would have mentioned the church, or whatever.

Thank you everyone. I never thought to look on Cumbriabmd.
His place of birth seems to change depending which census you find him on so he's a bit confusing.

Mary Ann’s parents were James Pratt & Jane leese/leece who married 14.5.1826 in dalton in Furness. Apart from 1871 census her pob is always Ulverston

Thank you.
Mary Ann seems to be straight forward. John on the other hand gives Ulverston, Preston, Fylde and I think there is a census with Rosacre too ( which I know would come under Fylde).
Just want to make sure I'm following the right Hesketh branch going back.

GrannyM is your thinking that John’s parents could be John hesketh & Alice Parkinson. Their marriage was 1843 in fylde. However freebmd does not record them together on its site, but separately

Added
Alice appears on 1851 census as a fisherman’s wife, with son John & several other children
John baptised 17.3.1853 lytham

On the original image for Alice Parkinson, the page number is obliterated by an ink blot!
FreeBMD have transcribed that as an asterisk.

Quoting from FreeBMD:

Meaning of special characters
The following characters are used where the index is difficult to read:

_ (Underscore)    A single uncertain character. It could be anything but is definitely one character. It can be repeated for each uncertain character.
* (Asterisk)    Several adjacent uncertain characters. A single * is used when there are 1 or more adjacent uncertain characters. It is not used immediately before or after a _ or another *.
Note: If it is clear there is a space, then * * is used to represent 2 words, neither of which can be read.

That is a possibility but I think their John may have died as an infant.
I need to send for the marriage certificate of John and Mary Ann then go from there.
Thank you for your help.

Hi, thank you for your continued interest in this. I'm a bit behind with my family history searches just recently - life has been getting in the way these last few months and still is- but I have noted your findings and thoughts and hopefully I will be able to get back into it all soon.   Thank you all once again 😊
