Mary Hartnell had s daughter born out of wedlock. Sarah Hartnell Godson. Sarah's baptism shows Alfred Godson as her father. This is not replicated on her birth certificate.
Alfred and Mary marry on 26th September1867, the same day that their son is baptised.
Alfred dies later in 1867 and in 1871 Mary marries James Cartwright junior. They have a number of children including a son Joseph, born 1882 according to the 1891 census. However, that listing is the only mention I can find of Joseph apart from a newspaper article in 1910.
I can find no trace of his birth nor baptism on FindMyPast nor Family Search nor free bmd nor GRO. Can anyone help track Joseph down please.

Looking at 1901, there's an Andrew the right age
Andrew Cartwright
Birth 2 Dec 1881
Baptism 26 Dec 1882 Stafford, St Mary,
Father James Cartwright
Mother Mary Cartwright
CARTWRIGHT, ANDREW
mmn HARTELL
Q1 1882
STAFFORD Volume 06B Page 4
Looks like a mistranscription of Hartnell

Thank you so much for the information, I've now got Andrew's birth certificate. His mother was Mary cartwright, late Godson, formerly Hartell so I know he's the right person.
I don't know why he was not on the 1891 census but Joseph, whom I can't trace, was and was almost the same age so for now I'm going to leave Joseph off The list of children born to James and Mary Cartwright.

I suspect the 1891 enumerator was having a bad day and misread his notes, turning Andrew, who has that name in every other record, to Joseph
