Title: census records
Post by: johnstonville on Sunday 01 June 25 03:33 BST (UK)
Hi
What happened to the online irish census records for the 1800's?  I used to search online for them and got many results.  after a break of 3 or 4 years I have come back to search and they only show results for 1901 and 1911.  I can only search online as live in NZ
Thanks to all replies

You are mistaken. Only a few fragments survive from the 1800s. Those fragments may be offline at present due to restructuring of the National Archives website.

They are still there, you can use the old site

https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Or click on the pale blue square on the new site

thankyou wexflyer and Sinan
I can get the records for 1821, 1831, 1841 and 1851 but not 1861, 1871 + 1881 which are the ones I am wanting .
when do you think the records will become online again?

"The original census returns for 1861 and 1871 were destroyed shortly after the censuses were taken. Those for 1881 and 1891 were pulped during the First World."
