Title: Frank Taylor /Elliott 1832 to 1903
Post by: Pigeon63 on Saturday 31 May 25 17:35 BST (UK)
I am trying to find a record of the birth of Frank Taylor who changed his name to Frank Elliott.
He was born approx 1832 at Breckenbeds,Gateshead according to census records. He was allegedly a foundling , brought up by the Taylor family at Wrekenton.
There was a thread about him some time ago but no indication of who his real parents were.
Family stories talk of him being an illegitimate son of a local Lord .
I am hoping a record of his birth may at least shine some light on who his mother was.
Help with this appreciated.

Where do you have him on census 1841/51.

What evidence do you have for the name change

In 1841 he is living with Grace Taylor, a Publican at Wrekenton.
On the 1851 census he is Elliott, living with the Ridley family one of whom he marries .
His birthplace is Surrey on the 1871 census but has a line through it.

That isn’t a crossing out, it’s a mark put on the page by someone doing classifications for statistical reasons.
They have put a mark through all the non-County Durham birthplaces.
