Hello, I am trying to trace back an Emma Powell. She married a John Beamish at St. Mary's-On-The-Hill, Chester on 24 December 1826. They moved to Ruabon, Wrexham area and eventually emigrated to Pennsylvania, USA around 1839. On the USA censuses her year of birth is given around 1805.
I've done a DNA test on Ancestry and I have several DNA cousins with a not so far documented connection to Emma, and I myself am a Powell. My own Powell's go back to 1805 in Flintshire, Wales where I've then got a brick wall. I'm hoping finding out where Emma was from, might help me to trace my own line back.
Many thanks

There are a lot of Powells marrying St Mary on the Hill +/-5 years of Emma/John.
(FreeREG)
May be worth following some of them up on Census to see where they were born.
I can see 3 children bapt Ruabon to John/Emma
John 1834
Margaret 1835
Peter 1837

There doesn't seem to be a naming pattern.

Thank you all. I hadn't seen the census showing that Emma was born in Wales - that's really helpful to try to narrow down area, and the children's names born in Wales to see if there is some kind of pattern.
I've looked into the Emma Powell born in Radnor and there is a marriage not far away that may connect with that baptism. I'll have a look into the other Powell's marrying at St. Mary's-On-The-Hill as well.

Thank you for the census information. That is the right family! I am certain that her maiden name is misspellt on that death certificate, and that the John Beamish and Emma Powell marriage is correct - one of her children married somebody with the surname Paull (that family were from Cornwall) so perhaps that spelling would have been familiar to them. :D
