Hi, hoping to find an obituary for Francis John Shugars of Knutsford Rd, Grappenhall, Cheshire, died 16 June 1953 at the General hospital in Warrington. Info from probate.
Death registered in Warrington.
Not finding anything, but believe he played rugby for Warrington and Wales (born in south Wales) so hoped there would be something 🤔
Any help appreciated - maybe better on the Lancashire board (couldn’t decide)

Hi,
Small piece in newspaper,

Brill, thanks Cathy, confirms it’s the man i’m looking for, but having trouble with his parents (not helped by the various spellings of his surname).

Thanks Sandra, hadn’t seen the Geneanet tree, though i have everything from there, and the newspaper clippings. Not my tree but the issue for the guy i’m helping is that there are several Francis John Shugars in the same family, of a similar age! An obituary would hopefully have helped if it included mourners at the funeral. But after extending my searches to his siblings and son i am as sure as i can be (without docs to prove it other than probate and addresses) that he is the right Francis John Shugars.

FindMyPast birth registration shows a -
Francis J Shugar, Dec Qtr 1875, Cardiff, 11a 232 - no mother's maiden name
Francis John Sugar, Dec Qtr 1875, Cardiff, 11a 232 - no mother's maiden name
GRO shows -
Frederick J Shuger, Dec Qtr 1875, Cardiff, 11a 232 occasional copy B - mothers maiden name Bowen
I cannot find Francis J Shugar/Sugar on the GRO or Frederick J Shuger on FindMyPast
Have you checked Welshnewspapers - they go up to 1919

Thanks hanes teulu, I’m fairly convinced that the Frederick J on the GRO is him (only the occasional copy shown), mother Bowen, registered in Cardiff. Census records say born Pentyrch which was in Cardiff reg district at the time, family moved to Rhondda area soon afterwards, other children born in Pontypridd reg district. Have suggested he buys the certificate but now looks like his great grandfather is one of the other Francis J Shugars so guess he may not bother 🤔

A Frederick Shugar married Jun Qtr 1875, Pontypridd, 11a 452 - on same page Mary Bowen.
Re Welsh newspapers see The Rhondda Leader, 10 Dec 1904

Thanks, have seen similar articles on other newspapers (FindMyPast and newspapers.com) but will check out Welsh newspapers too.
-
Have closed this topic now as it appears this is not the correct Francis James Shugar(s). All the info is correct but is not the great grandfather of the same name being researched.

Thanks
Modified - forgot to add that while chasing the Rugby player I found him playing regularly with my grandfather's brother.
