I’m really struggling to decipher the maiden surname of my ancestor. Anyone able to assist. See attached file.

It looks to me like [X]ilphington where [X] is the same letter as the first letter of the married name, which I can’t read.

Hi I would agree with PatLac. However if by any chance this is from Scotlands People, can I suggest you use the tab at the top right of the image, and use is to report your issue. They will either tell you what it is or more likely rescan the image and send you a copy. They are very good that way.

Wilphington
newspapers: 1 hit, misOCR’d
Ancestry: surname search, no hits
Scotland’s People: surname search, no hits
Added: PatLac, posts crossed.
Added again: if I’d remembered to use fuzzy search at SP I would have got a different result!

Thanks for all your suggestions. David, thanks for the suggestion regarding ScotlandsPeople. I was unaware that they were able to assist further and I’ve done as you suggested! PatLac I can see a strange spelling of Wilfinton so thank you.
