Could someone tell me ... is the newspaper archive on FindMyPast the same as the BNA? Or do I need to subscribe to both for all that is available? Thank you.
-
Yes, the underlying database is the same, but the two sites use different search engines. In other threads on this topic, members here seem to prefer the FindMyPast search. Both sites are owned by DC Thompson. Wikipedia explanation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Newspaper_Archive#Digitisation)

Thank you, I find it all very confusing sometimes ha ha!! So many archives I'm never quite sure where to go!

I have subscribed to both in the past and the search facility on Find My Past is better than BNA, I just subscribe to FindMyPast now.

Just to clarify the businesses are explained here, because the British Library are involved too.
Some of the pages downloaded were electronically marked ... All Rights Reserved British Library. It would appear the newspaper images are Copyrighted

The British Newspaper Archive is owned and run by Findmypast Newspaper Archive Limited. It is a commercial partnership with the British Library.
In turn, we are wholly owned by Findmypast Limited, the same company that brings you family history websites Findmypast, GenesReunited, Lives of the First World War, Who Do You Think You Are? Story and many more.
Ultimately, we are owned by DC Thomson & Co Limited, a UK-based, family-owned business that has been involved in publishing since the mid 19th century.

I've always favoured the BNA search engine and BNA is updated more regularly and frequently than FindMyPast but that only has a limited and fairly short term impact on results offered at any given time between the two sites.
