Title: Mary Summerson/Charlton
Post by: dippitybix on Tuesday 20 May 25 11:43 BST (UK)
Hello,

I'm looking for some assistance in identifying the second wife of my 4x great grandfather Robert Summerson.

Robert was born about 1825 and married his first wife Mary Ann Clasper 1850 Chester Le Street.

Mary Ann died in 1864 and he subsequently married Mary Charlton in 1871.

Mary Charlton died 26th July 1885, her son William Charlton was the informant at her death. They were living at 4 Plantation Street, Black Hill, Benfieldside. Robert was a coal miner.

I'd like to know Mary Charlton's maiden name, as assuming she had married previously before marrying Robert Summerson.

Many thanks for any help provided.

The 1871 Census has Mary with son William and it clearly states that she is unmarried. Also she gives her father's name as John Charlton on her marriage to Robert Summerson.

Gro Ref for William

William Charlton Mar 1858 Durham 10a 215 no mmn.
