Title: Looking for Parents of Patrick Delaney
Post by: MistyEchoes100 on Monday 19 May 25 17:52 BST (UK)
Hi,

I am looking for some help in identifying the parents of Patrick Delaney. He was married to Mary Walshe and had a son, John in 1871. Their address was Clonbane. John married Annie Glennon.

Can you please advise on the marriage date and where?

Believe this to be birth and marriage of son John. MMN is Whelan not Walshe though.

Birth of son, Thomas, in 1869 - mother Mary Walsh

I find this all really confusing!

Originally I had thought Mary's maiden name was Whelan, mainly as that was what the record hints on Ancestry had suggested and also the names and seemingly the dates were correct.

However, looking at the address and also apparently a Mary Whelan and Patrick Delaney were married in Portarlington and it wasn't likely that they would have had a child in 1871? The dates aligned more and the address and also the names, as I think Patrick and Mary had a son called Michael as did John. The address being Clonbane made more sense.

Here is Michael’s birth - Clonbane 1873 - mother Mary Walsh

It might be that John’s birth is omitted from civil records for some reason.

Thank you all for the help and information! I think that is all correct.

Here is a copy of John's birth from Ancestry. You are correct it is a parish birth, I wonder why there is no civil version?
