Title: WW2 RAF Service Number 1229885 Archibald Henry Gibbs RAF- which squadron?
Post by: queenswood 1 on Thursday 15 May 25 16:00 BST (UK)
I believe this is possibly the service number of a late family member and I am trying to find out details of which Squadron he was possibly attached to. He spent most of his WW2 RAF service as ground crew in India and I am starting to research a set of photographs.
Any initial help would be appreciated to make sure I am on the right track for the right person.

Thanking you in anticipation.

You would need to apply for his service record from the MOD: https://www.apply-deceased-military-record.service.gov.uk/ (https://www.apply-deceased-military-record.service.gov.uk/).
Very few other records are available online for personnel who served during WW2, apart from those who became prisoners of war and some servicemen who were reported as injured or missing. For obvious reasons the majority of those in the RAF who were in one of those categories were aircrew.

Thank you Andy- yes I made application on 1st May based purely on full name and date of birth- I had reason to believe that this may have been his service umber and I just wondered if there was any other way of finding out more while I was waiting for the service record. Thank you so much for your prompt and helpful reply.
