Hi, can anyone help me identify birth/family records for Dorothy Rosina Stephens-Drew please?
She appears on the 1939 register living in South Coast Road outside Brighton. She is single, but there seem to be two DOBs: 27 August 1890, and 22 August 1900.
Her death index entry on GRO in 1984 for Hove lists her DOB as 22 August 1904, and spells her surname Stevens-Drew.
There are quite a lot of electoral register entries on Ancestry starting from the 1920s through the decades, but none seem to have her living with any family from what I can see. I've been unable to find any record of her birth, or for other Stephens-Drews for that matter.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Many thanks
Nick

You mention electoral registers
The 1939 register also has her DoB as 22 Aug 1900 ???
Residence Place Chailey, Sussex, England
Occupation Private Means
At the same address
Ruby Garnham Female 1877
But as you say no real Family ??? ???
-
1921 has her as Dorothy Rosina Drew living in Surbiton with the same person as 1939 - she is a relative apparently
-
1911 in Surbiton with Ruby and her mother, listed as niece . Place of birth Chobham, Surrey
-
1911 Census
Has her in Surbiton with Emma Garnham listed as Relationship to Head of Household Head
Dorothy Rosina Drew and listed as Relationship to Head of Household Niece
Ruby is listed as Relationship to Head of Household Daughter
So must be some family around somewhere ??? ???
Edit
Crossed post with above

rather older though - also in same household in 1901
1911

Composed before recent posts, but…
Something to ponder:
3 April 1924: Nottingham Evening Post
LOCAL WILLS
...
MR. H. J. GARNHAM, DERBY.
Mr. Harry John Garnham. of 7, Charnwood-street, Derby, manager of the Palais de Danse, Derby, who died on December 21st, has left £6,035, with net personalty £5,645. The will is proved by Mrs. Garnham, the widow, and Alfred William Berry, of Winterdown Lodge, Thames Ditton, Surrey.
He leaves all the property to his wife for life, and then as to £250 each to his sister, Ruby Garnham, and Rosina Dorothy Drew, and the ultimate residue to his adopted daughter, Barbera Emma Garnham.

?
birth registration
Rosina Drew
Q4 1890 Chertsey, Surrey
mmn Stevens
age in 1921 fits with this date
added: this Rosina Drew seems to be with her parents Steven and Elizabeth Drew in Chobham in 1891 aged 7 months
-
baptism Chobham 28 June 1891
Rosina born 22 August daughter of Elizabeth Drew
-
Looking at the Drew family in Chobham in 1891, the next oldest child is Alice M Drew aged 4
She was baptised by Henry and Elizabeth Drew.
A Henry Drew died Q4 1888, Chertsey
In 1881 at Chobham
Henry Drew 39
Elizabeth Drew 35
Robert Stevens 7 step son [matches Robert Drew on the 1891 return with Rosina]
Florence M Drew 1 daughter [she is on the 1891 return]
Infant Drew son, 2 weeks
John Wm Stevens grandfather
I wonder if we are looking at a widow partnering with her brother-in-law? And perhaps that’s why there is no father on the baptism record?

Odd post Sorry ???
Following on from above Surrey birth record
1891 Census Surrey, Chertsey, England, United Kingdom
Rosina Drew Birth Year (Estimated) 1891
Father Stephen Drew
Mother Elizabeth Drew
Could she be miss named as Rosina daughter of Stephen Drew which became Rosina Stephens-Drew
Long shot but might explain the lack of other Stephens-Drew

gc1 see my reply #9
I think Elizabeth was originally Elizabeth Stevens. The mmn on Rosina Drew’s birth registration is Stevens, and in 1881 there is a Stevens stepson, plus the grandfather{?) Stevens.
-
Henry married Elizabeth Stevens 5 April 1879 in Chobham. He was a widower. Her father is William John Stevens - in the 1881 household.
Elizabeth died age 47 march qtr 1892 Chertsey vol 2a pg 60
Can't see a marriage for Elizabeth Drew after Henry's death, hence no father on the baptism record.

I haven’t got the stamina to prove they are definitely brothers, but both a Henry and a Stephen Drew were baptised at Chobham St Lawrence by Henry and Mary Drew
Henry — 2 October 1842
Stephen — 3 August 1851
-
both birth regs have mmn Duffin
Henry sept qtr 1842 Chertsey vol 4 pg 75
Stephen sept qtr 1851 Chertsey vol 4 pg 100
parish marriage 21 Oct 1838 Chobham
Henry Drew 24 bach labourer Chobham father James Drew labourer
Mary Duffin 16 spinster Chobham father Jonathan Duffin labourer
witnesses Mary Duffin & Charles Howard

Well, you proved it!
-
Stephen had been in the army and had spent over 16 years in Burma & India. He left 14 May 1889.
Explains his lack of appearance on some census entries.
