This man appears in the 1939 register. The birthdate shown is one day out from my relative's. I have tried various sites to see if I could find out what his middle name was. He married Alice Langan in 1930 in Dartford. John died in 1966 Freereg ref:Chatham SF 188. Are there any newspapers which may show a death announcement or obituary? I know I may have to bite the bullet and order a certificate but I am hoping someone can help me locate a headstone.

Thank you rosie17, the person I am searching for is John Cartney Taylor, born 5 October 1908 in Aberdeenshire Scotland. He was last heard of in Aberdeenshire circa 1926. This information eliminates him as a possible match. The search continues!

March 1942, The County Herald
A report of a traffic offence involving a motor cycle — it's quite complicated, but one of the two defendants was John Cartney Taylor of Bala Avenue, Greenfield (he was the owner but not the rider). There is nothing else in the article that might help to link him to your man.
I had a look at Bala Avenue, Greenfield [Holywell, Flintshire] in 1939 but did not see him – you should confirm that however.
This is the only hit at BNA with a search for the full name.

Well-spotted rosie17. I must learn to include permutations of name order to catch these.
It looks like Ina Taylor died in 2006 so we are on safe ground.

There is a Taylor-Williams birth registration Q3 1945. Can’t name, but it is a male birth with a (single) name that fits.

Thanks, I have seen this entry and the year, month and day are shown in that order so it is indeed 5th October 1908.
By the way I have sent for the marriage certificate and I'm sure it will confirm he is my missing man!
