Mary Macdonald's birth was registered in the June quarter of 1885 in Morpeth with mother's maiden name Dymond (10b 393). Ancestry is giving me no hints whatsoever about her and I cannot find her in the members' trees either. Nor can I find a marriage for her parents in England Wales or Scotland.
I don't think she is actually the Mary Macdonald we are looking for, but without any more information I can't rule her out at this point.
Can anyone with more local knowledge fill in the gaps please? Thank you

Is the birth 1855 (title of post) or 1885 (text of post)?

OK, found it –1885

Mary Macdonald's birth was registered in the June quarter of 1885 in Morpeth
Bear in mind that this was a very large Registration District - the birth need not necessarily have been in Morpeth itself https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/morpeth.html

That's why I was hoping for some local knowledge as I cannot find her on a census, can't find a marriage or a death.
I'm a reasonably experienced researcher, so I think it is probably her not me, but i do need to rule her out.

FamilySearch has these as separate entries. There are Morpeth births for the children as MacDonald/McDonald with various mmn's. Diamond, Dimont, Dymont, Dymond

Brilliant. Thanks. That's why it didn't come up when I tried the Dymond spelling in FreeBMD
