Hi everyone.
I am so knew to this so please bear with me and I apologise if I am breaking any rules.
I am trying to trace information on my maternal grandfather. I know he stayed at 17 Argyle Street, Motherwell (which I know no longer exists). He was I believe a motor ombudsmen driver = I believe but may be wrong, his father was John Kerr a master shoemaker and wife Agnes Kerr (nee Jackson).
Any info on David or the family would be appreciated.

David Kerr born 2/8/1906 Woodside Cottage, Waterloo, Lanarkshire. Died 1973 aged 67 years Glasgow. He married Agnes Conner (1910-1934) 12th July 1929 in Hamilton. Children, Margaret (1929-1978) John (1930-1932) Agnes (1932-2010) and Caroline (1934-2015) As her mother died the year Caroline was born, it could be that she died in childbirth in 1934.
David Kerr parents; John Kerr (possibly born in Ireland) (1877-1924) Died 6th November 1924, 21 Baillies Causeway, Hamilton. He married Agnes French Jackson in 1903 in Hamilton. Agnes died 21st June 1937 in Wisham Hospital of congested lungs, her usual address was 33 Argle Street, Motherwell. The informant was her son David Kerr who lived at 8 School Road, Hamilton. Her husband John Kerr pre-deceased her, but was listed as a Shoemaker/Journeyman.
John Kerr (1877-1924) Parents ; Mother Mary Baggs (1846-1897) Father David Kerr (1841-1904) Mary died 21st April 1897 at 17 Coltress Cottages, Lanarkshire. David died 23rd April 1904 Cambusnetham, Lanarkshire, he was a Small Farmer.

Thank you so much for the information. More than I imagined.
However, looking at the death record for David Kerr, 1973 that I can see it is not my grandfather as the dob is inaccurate.
This is the problem we have experienced as he seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth since my mother last saw him around 1937-1939.
Any help appreciated.

Perhaps you could share the expected DOB of your grandfather. Bear in mind that people can be very flexible about their ages. I have had people gaining or losing a significant number of years on the death of a spouse in a census.

John Kerr and Agnes Jackson married in 1903 in Hamilton.
It looks like they had a son named David born in 1906. Do you have this birth certificate?
David’s marriage certificate will give information about his parents. Do you have this?
There are census records available for David and his family in 1911 and in 1921. Do you have either of these?

Birth certificate on a fami!y tree gives his birth as 2 August 1906

Have you checked the marriages of his family to see what information it says on the father

Oh, thank you all so much. David was born on 2 August 1906, from what we know. I do not have any documents or census, as I have absolutely no idea how or where to begin.
Mum's mum, (mum also Agnes) died following the flu. Her dad, David, left her and her 2 siblings with their maternal grandmother, and he provided for them for about 5 years, and then everything stopped. No money, no visits, no information.
Til the day she died, Mum always wondered what happened to her "daddy". She would never speak of him or her mother, and neither would her cousins whom she was brought up with. I know back then there was "children should not ask questions," so I guess they never did because neither her sisters, Margaret or Caroline, knew anything about him either. They did say they had a brother called John who died just before his mum as an infant.
Any help towards finding out would be so much appreciated. More than you can ever imagine.

The best place to start is Scotlands People you will need to register with them which is free .www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
They have all the original documents for Scotland if the family had no contact with their father it would be a bit pointless trying to view marriage certificate's as I suggested
There is a mention of the brother John Kerr who died on www.findagrave.com with a picture of the grave stone
Not seeing any records so far of immigration ???

Her Mother Agnes died in 1934, and her Father provided for 5 years, which would take the date to 1939, when nothing more was heard of him. This of course was when WW2 broke out, which might be a route to check out.
I have tried to attach copies of David's birth record, and also his marriage record, but it seems they are too big for Rootschat's system, so if you want to PM me with your email address to have a copy, I will happily have another go at attaching them for you.

The valuation rolls show that
Mrs Agnes KERR was tenant occupier at 17 Argyle Street in 1930 and in 1935
So this would have been the address of David’s mother who died in 1937.

Yes she has checked that one the problem being few trees has his death as 1973 nothing to confirm this and unfortunately as it happens they have all copied this date ???
