Title: Dating of a possible Family Group Newcastle and North Shields
Post by: Dan_Hall on Saturday 03 May 25 21:09 BST (UK)
Hi,

I am looking to date the photos from a page in a Victorian photo album I have acquired that belonged to my family. I don't know who the sitters are but I'm hoping to perhaps work that out in time. I wonder if these are a family group as they are on the page together- a mother and two children. Any help would be much appreciated.

Have a lovely weekend,

Dan

This shows the photos in the album, any help greatly appreciated. I thought the child bottom right was a boy but looking at the clothes, I am not so sure...

I would think that they are late 1880s.

Boys used to ear female cloths until they were 'breeched'

The child on the left could be either but, apart from the cropped hair, I'd say that is a girl.

Thanks, they must be important but it's a puzzle who they are in relation to the family. Appreciate the help.

Sometimes people include close friends in their photo albums.

Also, it might be worth drawing up a  tree of possible relatives.

Just a little bit of help on the photographer.

A&G Taylor were a large photography company and they had a studio in Newcastle. There are similar items here. https://cabinetcardgallery.com/category/photographer-a-g-taylor/

I work in a historic building and we have photographs of Edward VII and Princess Alexandra taken by the same Photography Studio in the same type of mount.

Woman's dress is not Edwardian.

Thanks for the advice, funnily enough there are a few Royal photos included in the Album including Edward VII and his wife before they were King and Queen, plus 3 of Queen Victoria's daughters- although none of Victoria herself. I can identify around 50% of the album but the rest are a mystery. The ages of the sitters don't seem to match anyone on my tree and perhaps they are friends as suggested. Thanks again.
