Welcome to RootsChat!
Have you seen this?
I do have names, supported by and taken from the following certificates, which arrived today.
An 1899 marriage certificate for a Charles Emile Derraven (age 28, seaman) and a Margaret Jane Lugton (age 25).
Charles's father, also Charles Emile Derraven (decd), a ship's carpenter.
Margaret's father, William Lugton, also a ship's carpenter.
A 1928 marriage certificate for a Charles Emile Derraven, (age 49, ship's boatswain) and Rose Lilian Anstice (age 21).
Charles's father, also Charles Emile Derraven (decd), an architect.
Rose Lilian's father was Charles Valentine Anstice, a boiler maker.
A 1943 death certificate for a Charles Derraven, age 72, boatswain (retd) M.S. of 4 Mill Parade, Newport.
The informant was R. L. Derraven, widow of the deceased, at the same address.
Taken from reply number 8 on an old thread:

Right ok, he went from Barbados to Canada that’s what we know, my wife’s’ grandad is of black origin so we think once he got to Canada he must have changed things, you know how easy it was to do then
-
Something odd about the 2nd marriage to Rose Lilian Anstice in 1928 because Margaret Derravan was still claiming to be married in 1939
1939
South Shields
Margaret Derravan born 24/8/1873, status is Married
Margaret Jane Lugton birth reg Q4 1873, South Shields

Wow now that is interesting perhaps she was claiming money elsewhere or he did a runner and never got divorced, do you know if he fathered anymore children in Newport as our ultimate goal is hopefully find a photo of some sort. Thank you

A Charles Derravan/Derraven, born in Barbados was in Newport at the end of WWI:
Charles Derraven b 1867 Barbados was awarded a medal for merchant service during WWI
the medal card refers to an issue date in 1919 and to an illegible address (24 Llanwith Street?) in Newport.
Charles Derravan, crew member SS Lurway?? arriving New York 11/3/1922 has nationality West Indian (British), engaged at Newport, Monmouthshire, age 55.

Well, this seems to link everything together.

An earlier article: granting of a separation order. Note that this time he is a native of Nova Scotia.

Hi, now I am really confuse is this the same person then? We all know it was easier in them days we think that from Barbados he went to Canada then onto South Shields as there was a small black population in Durham what do you think? Thanks
-
That’s fantastic I am hoping we maybe able to find a photo somewhere or where would I go to find something like that

do you know if he fathered anymore children in Newport
If you look on Freebmd.org.uk you can see some Derraven/Anstice births
There is quite a gap between them so you would have to get the images to see if they were the right parents.
Especially as some of them are after death of Charles .
But the 1929 one might be worth following upon
Unfortunately none are available as the cheaper digital images.
Also the birth of Ivor Anstice in 1926. He married & died as Derraven
The poster on the 2008 post is connected to him.
There are two births in Pontypool that look as though they could be his children.

I agree with mckha489: Ivor Anstice/Derraven is the key to finding living Derraven descendants.
My own research indicates that there are living members of the Derraven family in South Wales, but we are dealing with people who are still living, so names can't be divulged. However, there is an Ancestry tree MJ: Charles Derraven, owner martinjenjins62 which is clearly this family, so your best bet is to make contact with the tree owner through Ancestry and to go from there.

You maybe able
To help. Thanks

Do I need to make contact with Martin jen62 via this site to find out more. Thank you
-
No, you would have to join Ancestry at ancestry.co.uk (http://ancestry.co.uk). It is possible to open a free account, but I have just checked and as far as I can tell this doesn’t include access to other people’s trees. There are various levels of subscription available, and you can pay monthly if you only wanted to be on there for a short time before cancelling.
